How does the secondary catch has 2springs? mine has 1.
It doesn't matter as long as the hook-lever springs back on its own. The springs do not hold the hood/bonnet down. They only let the hook return to normal position once you close the hood. The hook will (is supposed to) catch on the sheet metal if the primary latch fails or if the hood is not closed all the way.

It has happened to many of us, including me.

Best part is I got them all for free

Excellent idea of changing the direction of air flow.

Keep that boot handle. they are hard to find and worth a bit don't let people tell you any other way.

That bonnet is perfect candidate for bonnet pins.

My original has some rust in the front lip underneath. In summer I plan to cut it out and weld a piece of sheet metal to help form a lip to block air flow between bonnet and rad support. Force all air through radiator then

I had it happen to an old one tonner ute and it ruined the car as kingswood bonnets weigh a tonne and the thud was lets say horrific at 140kmh on a country road.

My next one tonner had a fibreglass tilt front end and apart from never possible to flip open as it opens the other way it saved about 120kg overall from the front end!

this is where Mazda classic cars are better designed with reverse opening bonnets.

Yeah I'd go Pins, plus I reckon they'd suite the look of your car!!
Plus if you're getting a new bonnet it should be easy enough to line it all up...
(and thank your lucky stars it wasn't a GX bonnet!! :S ")
Still man that sucks ey.

I consider my bonnet pins as secondary catches but they act more like primary ones lol.

Datsun 1200 comes standard with a hood latch and secondary catch.

If you have ever had the hood off, the latch may need adjustment to work properly.

This is the latch:

And this hook lever is the secondary catch:
