A 1987 pickup is not a L18. That's a Z24. That's what I have in my car. Its a hefty mod.

I had a stock L18 in my 510 with a Weber and 5 speed. It was nothing special. Just a daily driver for a couple of years. The engine mounts and tunnel conversion for a bigger motor and tranny can be tricky. See the first page of my Z24 conversion. I built the motor mounts right on the motor in the car. Key is to lift the car up and set the tires on blocks. Get the full weight of the car on the tires up off the floor for good working clearance. Slip a thin piece of blocking on the cross member. Drop the engine and tranny in and set the oil pan on the cross member. Tie wire the rear of the tranny up through the shift hole and wrap a piece of wood up on top of the tunnel. Now you have full weight of the engine on the car and and on the tires. Move engine into the position you want and weld engine and tranny mounts. Make sure hood clears.
That's how I did it. It is a bit of work though.

Ive missed it but what car is it going into?

Im trying to source an NA20S or NA16S crossflow head for the L series, it has kidney shaped chambers, roller rockers and with a mild cam, 40mm webers and exhaust can make around 150hp stock from what Ive read from a Taiwanese translation.

Here is the head

I just got my l20b into my 1200, I got away with the standard tunnel using a bluebird 5 speed , I had to scollop the xmember and make up my own mounts though , wasn't hard took me about 4 hours all up and I used the v8 rover engine mounts, the l20b is the tallest and I have about 20mm clearance from the bonnet , in my opinion its not a hard conversion to have the motor and box mounted up

I hear the L18 conversion is a big job! Crossmember, mounts, and sump, need to be heavily modified.... However the end result won't disappoint!

Have a read here! http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=389865
