when i did my l18 1200 i sat the engine on the x member made my mounts then massaged the sump carefully and then massaged the x member (with a sledge hammer) . it may sound ruff but a small amount ether way made a big difference and you wouldn't know that it was done.

That's right, the 1972 bonnet for DX/GL/GX doesn't have any additional clearance. It is strictly for looks.

L20B is 19.6 mm taller than L16. It will fit under stock hood if:
* use 910 Bluebird front sump and oil pick
* place engine as far back as possible 10mm clearance to firewall
* mount almost down to the crossmember maybe 3mm clearance
* don't weld the mount plates too high up
* Use the lowest profile rubber isolators (early 510 are shorter than A-series)
* Use stock air cleaner, or a 32/36 with thinnest adapter, or a low profile aftermarket filter

And remember to lower transmission too to achive the standard 5-degree powertrain slope of the 1200, so that the diff pinion is in alignment.

The frame of the gx is the same it's only the skin that's a different shape but correct me the clearance you need from the l20 is toward the front of the motor anyways

You need a bluebird front sump l20b. You really need it to sit as low as possible to fit l20 over l16/18 due to extra 20mm deck height.

Yours engineered?

My sump and pick up were modded to fit lower into the bay too but then.draglink clearance can become an issue at full lock
