Alloy basically mean a mix of ingrediants with a metalic base but people general use it to mean aluminium.

The cam cover would be an aluminium alloy of some type.

That will make it easyier.just give it a hit with 600 then start the black grese and polish wheel.the more time you spend on it the better it will turn out

Hi guys thanks for the replies,Datrotor i dont plan to use that cheap way off doing it being that mag polish im going to use the sissal disk then the polishing disc.I just thought it would polish better and be less work if i sanded the parts first,i used one off those vibrating sanders and to tell u the truth even using 120 grit it hasnt left any noticable scratches and made shore that i went in the same direction.

The polish in the tubes is no good for the wheels.dont belive everything google says.you will have a really hard time trying to remove the scratches now.the black wax with hard mop wheel will cut just about anything back and give you a good start point to mirror finish.but now that you sanded with 120 I'd keep going up grades untill really fine about 6-800 then black wax it

If there are no deep scratches, use just a compound, I think green 1st finished off in white, if they're deep Yes use a medium sandpaper then fine paper then polish. It's not a 5 min job. Yes you will remove the scratches as most polish places will sand if necessary.

Hi Datrotor i gave the parts a sanding because i didnt know whether or not the cutting compound would strip it back and also watched a tutorial on how to polish by sanding and then that paste u buy in a tube to polish mags.In the kit i get the different wheels.

To polish any alloy I would not touch it with sand paper.you will never remove all the paper scratches.you need brown wax to cut everything back then white then green wax for final finish.but you also need the proper wheels to go with each wax .and no you can't polish mild steel but yes the alloy and stainless waxes are the same
