It sure was fun in my light blue 1200 sedan with the turbo engine to kick ass on Chevy 305 Camaros and Monte Carlos with a very stock looking car. The only things that were not stock looking were larger tires/aluminum wheels and the 3" twin exhaust sticking out the rear. The sound was a dead give away though. It sounded more like an Indy car than an econobox. I will do fender flares and lower MS VI before I paint it but I plan on doing MS VII as stock as possible but 185 tires are a must. Mareo

Go with the "sleeper" look ... the stock look. Keep those big tires tucked under the stock fenders/guards. This keeps attention away from your car, but the performance will speak for itself when called upon. As they say, "speak softly and carry a big stick".
That's what I'd do ...
If you really want to avoid attention ... paint it white. Yes, nice un-inspringing, non-exciting white. The number one color for new cars in the US in 2000.

Finding whitewalls shouldn't be a problem since many old cars had them in sizes greater than 165. A friend of mine had a Chrysler Centura with white walls, they were around 205 by 14in. which would be enough. AND yes i agree the sleeper look is the way to go. Not only for original style, but also cops will have a field day with u regardless of whether or not u have been through the pits and passed. A friend of mine was threatened to be defected for have a "larger than normal" brake master cylinder!!! IT WAS ####ING STANDARD!

I think if you went the coupe or ute route you would go the lowered clean look with the lowered 16inch wheel look, but no flares and spoilers, just original clean lines with the chrome trimmings. But as ca18detman stated if you went the sedan or wagon route you would go the poo brown colour with all original retrimmed interior and dished 13inch steel wheels with datsun hubcaps of the same era. Also I forgot the blind on the back window. All this with 400hp under the hood and stop at the lights next to a wrx and laugh when you watch his face when he is looking at your tailights...

I was doing some more thinking, about it,and if the car is going to be fitted with a CA18 engine, then it no longer will behave stock,so the CA18 would shave away any stock 12 inch wheels,or 13 inch wheels in stock size(which I think it was 12 or 13 X41/2 wide)and the car would not move,or might spin as if it was a feather.Another set up would be,13X8 with 215-50-13 tires front, and 14X10 with 265-50-14 tires, you would need some wheel well work and flares, but that car ,lowered 3 inches, would allow that CA18 to really show its potential. I 've seen some super transplants, but the wheels where 15X6 or 7,sometimes 16X6,with puny tires, and the car would not move when floored(pedal),worst is the performance when cornering, powerfull engine with wimpy tires is asking for a wall or tree for companionship. I know individual tastes vary, but take that power to rubber ratio, unless you want to keep the A12 in place. Cheers Jaime

Hey Will. Your car is cool. You got it already flared, and those flares are nice, and give you a lot fo space to fit some meatty tires. Most guys wish they had your flares, but those are not easy to make. Jaime

My personal choice would be neat and tidy unit. nice rims 14's or 15's and paint low suspension and all the go fast goodies. No offence but in my opinion really low with huge rims loud exhuast recaro interior ect is a bit too wogg for my liking plus its begging to be stolen not to menchin the expense of it all. I would one day like to build a work 1200 wagon stock looking white with basically the same gear thats in my coupe. Only would be able to fit all my tools in the back factory roof racks a must and the sun visor would be cool too.I think a 400hp ca18 would be quite nifty and suprise the hell out the the boys at the track. I remember a mazda 1000 wagon that looked stock as a rock with a 13b turbo stuffed in it with slicks it was pulling huge wheelstands runnign low 10's at 130mph now thats what I call a sleeper. cheers Andrew
