Only Japanese-market Sunny Trucks have it from March 1973.
Australia-market 1200 truck has it from 1980 ???
The purpose is to leave a chamber for the fuel vapors to expand into. It is a sealed fuel tank system (EVAPO), with a vent line that goes up to the engine compartment.

I am in rebuilding a 1200 ute and discovered when removing the RH rear quarter panel the Reserve tank is missing. All the hoses are present but no tank.
