hmm okay il check the piston skirts tommorow

the motor was rebuilt 20000km ago with new bearings pistons and everything so i might leave these bearings in there and spend the money on cams and valve springs.

I hope i do find the knocking issue as i dont want to put it all together and it knocks again

the knocking seemed to come from the valve train area loudest near number 3 and 4 pistons

also whilst the head is apart i will be putting new valves in so my question is i want to put in a14 valves i think its 2mm bigger on the inlet and 1mm bigger on the exhaust valve (along with the ported head and cam it should be of some benefit)

so will these 2mm and 1mm bigger valves fit with the standard A12 valve seat size? i have heard some people say its okay if you port out a bit of the inner seat so it can flow more but some say you need bigger seats for the valves to sit and seal properly?

thanks!!

the mains clearance would not be a problem & the valve collet grooove burring with not give a knocking noise.
maybe check for cracked or broken piston skirts.(you will need to remove pistons to check them properly.

now thats it apart ,i would suggest a new set of bearings mains & conrods to be fitted before re-assemble.(not to costly do that.)

okay so i pulled the head and took apart the valves springs

and a few valves wont come out of the guides the top were the collets sit the metal has flared abit on the edge of the stem so it wont come out

so i think this may be my knocking issue as the sound did come from the valve train

thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi

So today i measured all the bearing clearances and all of them a in spec not exceeding 0.0020

but the last main bearing no.5 seems to be out off spec

it reads 0.050mm (about 0.0020in) on the side towards the front of the engine

but reads 0.076mm (0.0030in) towards the end of the engine (towards the rearmain seal)

0.0025thou inch is the max it mine is at 0.0030 thou inch on one side only??

is this a major issue and can it cause knocking?

how can i fix this issue??

Thanks i have attached a few pictures.

thanks for that

all bolts were tight when i was removing them

il take the head of tommorow and see if it is a valve or valve seat or something

was thinking to get my cam reground and port the head a little while its out

Thanks again

conrods clearance 0.0015 - 0.0025 thou
mains clearnce 0.002 - 0.0025.

these specs would be with in reason

the bearings appear to look ok in then photos.

was flywheel bolts loose by any chance or balancer bolt.

Hi

so bit of an update i took the motor out today and removed the caps and crank to check all the bearings.

to my suprise nothing seems spun or badly worn bearings have slight wear but nothing serious from my experience all the marks on the bearings cannot be felt with your nail so its very fine.

so i gueese this is good news right??.... or not because i cannot find anything else wrong with the motor tappets cams all gears timing chain are fine.

one thing i did notice is that all of the conrod bearings the oil hole isnt fully lined up with the oil gallery holes ( you can see in the pics) Is this normal? i lined one just to see then the bearing sticks out on one side slightly.

besides this i also noticed that the main bearings thrust face (i think thats the name) seems to have slightly deeps marks? any ideas?

so i will be measuring it tommorow with plastigauge to make sure its all good.
does anyone know the clearances for rod bearings and main bearings? or anyone have a copy of the manual online?

Thanks let me know what you think of the pictures.
