OK - sorry for the late reply. I've checked em out and they fit fine monroe 25-3436.
The pushrod of them and the 'proper' monroe strut inserts for the 1200 actually stick out at full extension almost precisely (give or take 1-2mm) the same amount. But the BODY of the 25-3436 ones are 3.5 inches shorter, so with a sleeve on top of them to take up the space in the strut tube, you can get 3.5inch shorter springs (at full droop) and still be captive. Naturally if you only needed (for example) 2 inches less travel at full droop, you could just as easily run a 2 inch spacer on top and a 1.5 inch one below the strut insert. The hollow bar I got is a nice fit too - fits inside the strut tube neatly and also just enough clearance for the pushrod to fit through the centre without rubbing at all.
The very top of the strut pushrod, where the strut top bolts on has similar threaded length, but the 'step' section is shorter on the shorter strut inserts. I have put the spring perch/top and bearing and strut top on one, and due to the way they fit on there, this actually has no effect whatsoever on how they mount up and so on. In other words, if the 'proper' strut inserts had a smaller stepped section, they'd fit just as good too, so I don't actually know why it's there (just copying the originals probably).
So if you have dramas getting the shroter strut inserts, let me know I'll chase down a set from where I bought my last pair (it did take about a week they didn't have em on a shelf, but did get them in with seemingly no dramas) and if you need some pieces of hollow round bar cut to length to suit, let me know as well.

Andy - I may be able to get the monroes - "25- 3436" I've actually got a set here, but I haven't actually fitted them inside the strut tubes to check their fit. I have also gotten some hollow steel bar to cut down and act as a solid spacer so they are a firm fit in the strut height wise. I'm seriously short on time, but I'll do my best to test fit em in a stock 1200 strut (and work out what size spacer sleeve/shim would be needed). The bar was about $80-100 (I forget, I bought it over 6 months ago) for a metre length, so it would end up being about $20 per pair of struts when cut to the right length.
I'll let you know (if I remember!) on the weekend, if I get time to check it, and if not phone or PM me to remind me!

Just uploading a list of Monroe part numbers and basic vehicle model description to replace golf inserts as i have had trouble sourcing golf inserts. Please note there is no information in regards to outer diameter that is up to interested persons to find out and the model descriptions have been kept basic. If you go to monroe website you can search each part number and get more details regarding models but didnt see it as very relevant regarding 1200's.
