my first rally is quite possibly on sept 25th, and looking at results from other rallies locally, (forest rally by the way) there are a few other 1200s getting started (Grade F drivers and navigators) so ill have a chat to any of these guys that show at my rally and see what they know. by the way these cars seem to be getting pretty respectable times overall and are high up in their class, considering their just starting out

From the 2000 CAMS Manual, Section 11 Page 52

1. ELIGIBILITY
For a vehicle to be eligible as a Production Rally Car, it must be derived from any of the following:

1.1 Cars recognised by the FIA as being of Group A from January, 1982.

1.2 Cars formerly recognised by FIA as being of Group 1 or Group 3 which are included on lists published prior to 31 December, 1981.

1.3 Cars recognised by CAMS as an Australian Touring Car, in their basic form.

1.4 Cars recognised by CAMS as a Series Production Car for Group 3E racing whether currently or previously and if the latter, having been deleted only due to the cessation of production.

1.5 Cars marketed in Australia being either manufactured or assembled in Australia or fully imported, and being of a model which CAMS in its sole descretion may recognise as a production rally car irrespective of the number produced or of its origin, and subject to the model being deemed by CAMS to be within the spirit of the definition of a mass produced vehicle.

Damn this is confusing. Can someone who legally rallies an A14 powered Datsun 1200 in PRC come forward and tell us how you did it?! (IF it is legal)

Any ideas 1200rc?

those 510 twincab utes look mad!

I wonder if they were actually a model that came out in japan or they grafted 510 frontends onto 520s?

I am pretty sure that the 1000 came out in a sports version in japan with a 1200cc motor... I found a few ads on japanese websites but can't read any of them for obvious reasons..
anyone care to elaborate?

be careful 1200rallycar, as a few other guys here said in the that photo's thread, it came with an L14 rather than an A14. I saw one in a mates "Nostalgic Hero" magazine from Japan. It will be pretty hard to find one of those blocks here in Aus. Also, you'll probably find that you will have to supply proof of FIA homologation to prove that it is eligible.

First thing you should do is have a good read of your CAMS manual, and ask other guys who rally them in Aus. These things are 30 years old, and if no-one else has done this yet it's a pretty safe bet that it can't be done.

What kind of rallying are you thinking of getting into - classic tarmac or forest rallies? Important to note that CAMS /ARCOM do not run to the same rules as Targa or Classic adelaide.

Were they sold in Aus? To be homologated do they have to sell X number of cars in Australia or can it be from anywhere?

what is the deal with these things, when were they sold, are they still b110's, if they had the same chassis as 1200 and had an a-14 maybe they can be homolagated for 1200's to use a-14s in rally cars?

p.s. if you dont know what im talking about look for the pictures in photo album under mechanical/bodys and interiors for photo called "silver 1400 excell..."
