i see you've also done the 1171 cc x 1.7 = 1996 cc's sums.a friend was going to do this with a supercharger from a mini,but never finished it,he probably still has the blower,it's much bigger than a 4agze blower.my idea was always 930 cc x 1.7 = 1590 cc.thats a ma9 motor from a nissan march,it's 4 cylinder,twin cam,16 valve,& super & turbo charged.i was going to put one of them in my 1000,but found out that cams would have put me into the 1600-2000 cc class,& i could never find an ma9,just ma10's.

yes,i saw paul's car last year at mount cotton, but couldn't get a close look as it had some problems & left before i could get to see it.i haven't had a call about grafton yet,so probably won't be going there this year.i always had problems there myself, but the track is challenging.one year an auxiliary venturi turned in the front weber & blocked off the main circuit,so i had a tuning problem that wouldn't show up in the pits, but as soon as i lined up for my burn-out dropped a cylinder.eventually i did a run dipping the clutch to keep the revs up & take the load off the motor,& still got third in class.didn't find that one till i got back to sydney,& found a locating spring had dropped out of the venturi.this is why 45 dcoes are better than 40 dcoes, the venturi is held in by a bolt.though i know someone (not me,honestly not me),who put one in back to front in a 45,& blocked off the main circuit that way.give grafton a go on one of their club days, they're much cheaper then,& people don't roll cars going across the finish line as much as at mt cotton.

yeah, I love MtCotton. Since Lakeside closed down, that is the best venue in QLD as far as I'm concerned - it's a huge adrenalin rush! There have been a few big crashes and rollovers out there. And you're right, track knowledge is a big factor in hillclimbing.

Don't underestimate Paul's car. I don't reckon he gives any bhp away to Greg Ward. That beetle always looks pretty unsettled and must be a real handful to drive.

I don't know Stan (but know of him, obviously), and I've only met Paul a few times. He only comes out for the big events these days and I've only been into this kind of thing for a little over a year. Are you going to the Aussie Hillclimb Championships at Grafton? I didn't enter - saw the track a little while ago and wasn't particularly impressed with it, and the entry fee is a bit steep as well.

NSW seems to have so many great hillclimb venues. We only have on full time venue (Mt Cotton) and a once a year event at Noosa.

Got any pics of your thousand in action?

gotta say this, but mount cotton is death-on-a-stick,& one day i'll get to run it.the full course at king edward park was even more so,i did 125 k's on the radar into percy's pinch in my 1000,& the pinch is a walking track, with a wicked, drop off into the braking area, left hook at the top.also, greg wards beetle is a serious piece of gear, with about 200 flywheel horsepower out of 1.9 litres.so for paul & harry to beat greg says one thing, you can't beat a home-track advantage.no,no,just kidding.i know greg's beetle cause i know stan pobjoy,i'm pitcrew for his openwheeler sometimes, was at mount cotton last year for the australian championships.you should know stan, harry,as paul's father-in-law knows him quite well too.

that would be me. There was a hillclimb at MtCotton Sunday before last (25th). It was a pretty good day despite the awful weather which made it pretty hairy on the track at times.

I've got an fairly hot L18, SSS 5spd, locked 4.3, and alot of suspension work. I won my class - Improved Production 1601-2000cc - with a 50.92 which is not too bad for the conditions.

My best result out there was a 2nd in class at the Qld Hillclimb Championships, ahead of the guys who finished 2nd and 3rd in class at the Australian Championships (Sauer's Escort and Ward's Beetle - don't laugh!). But at least I was beaten by another 1200 coupe. Paul Gray's green 1200 coupe is an awesome little car with a very strong L20, and has held the class record out there for a long time now.
