Many engines have headbolt threads that are in water. Sealant is used on the threads.

I really do wonder why motors like the Buick v6 were designed to need sealant from letting coolant through the head bolt holes?

I am a stud in general!!! Oh not the topic I thought...
Anyway, i am not a CA18DET expert but i would imagine (in fact i am certain) that the studs would not pass through any water jackets as the thread would act as a leakage path for water.
