Here is another thing to consider, insurance companies base values on publications from Kelly and NADA. A quick check at kbb.com shows that they don't publish values before 1994, and nada.com shows a low book value of $1100, and a high value of $2975. That high figure is for a vehicle in PERFECT condition. Anything can lower the value, faded paint, worn tires, dirty engine, parking lot dents (little small ones), collision damage, the person doing an estimate having a bad day(don't laugh I've seen it happen), almost anything can and will change the value. Another thing to consider, a dent the size of the palm of your hand is about $500 to repair, make it bigger, it will cost more to repair. When dealing with insurance companies, all bets are off, some of will total a car simply because they don't want to deal with the extra complications of repairing an "old pile of junk" (no I am NOT saying that yours is a pile). There are a lot of variables, a lot more than there is room to put here.
The best advice I can give you based on 16 years of running a body shop, if your dealing with an insurance company and you don't like the way they treat you, get an attorney.

Also depends on the person buying it. They may pay extra for an auto as it has a larger tunnel for CA conversions.

Absolutely nothing wrong with an automatic box............Sterling Moss preferred them off track, it is just that for Datsuns they bring less money. A 2.8 Capri is neat car but sort of the opposite of a 1200. If you can fix the 1200 yourself while driving that would porbably work best. Don't sweat your post, prices are a bit of a shock.............if it were a 510 the price would be double.

With all due respect, the prices you were given were an honest answer given the info provided.

I understand your reaction as these cars mean a lot to us BUT our experience with them or how knowledeable we are has absolutely know bearing on their value.

First unlike 240Zs, Roadsters and 510s the 1200 is not nearly as sought after. They obviously have a following but again not at the same level. The prices vary with manual coupes being the most valuable, automatics take a pretty big price hit. Unlike other cars bone stock cars also sell for less.

One of the best cars in the USA went for all of 6k and ddgonzals very rate ute sold for much lower than anyone thought it would.

We have had our coupe since 1985 and the car has every part from the motorsports catalog bolted to it and it's been in a couple of magazines but I would be hard pressed to get 5k for it. In general people just don't appreciate 1200s...........they all want BRE look alike 510s

Get some pictures up, I assume you need a value for insurance purposes. If so comb through the ads for cars sold here. It should give an adjuster something to work with.

Add your location and pics but price is affected by those factors and also what buyer will pay.
As a mechanic and someone who sells used cars wouldnt you know this already?????

Yes, I sold mine this last summer but it had
no crash damage. 33 years ago I got my first 1200, so I may not know as much as you. Automatic 1200s generally are a harder sell as most want a manual, by you might find a buyer that prefers the auto.

If you don't want opinions why'd you ask? With no photos, it can only be a ballpark figure.
