I've had luck cutting a grove almost all the way through the collar on similar stuff, using a dremel/cutoff wheel. Then sticking a huge screwdriver in the grove and spreading it open.

well if at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer .... or a hot one

hope you didn't damage the spline or the rest of the car too much

Never mind being as impatient as I am I just torched it off heated for a bout 5 mins then pryed it off while it was still on fire then used about 2 gallons of water to put it out.

I tried drilling to expose the teeth and useing a puller but the treads striped and the plastic behind keeps on shattering...
