The correct procedure per the Owners manual is to press the accelerator pedal partway while turning the key to Start. The choke should be pulled out first for easy starting.

Take off the dizzy cap n check the point gap. Sounds like u need to replace them and then reset the ignition timing. You need a gap of about .45 mm . once you adjust the gap u need to reset/adjust ignition timing. Spark Plugs are probably fouled too now. A12 is pretty simple if I have fuel that's a Good start. Yes pump the speed pedal about 2-3 times before starting. Not to much more or u will flood the engine.

Hi Guys,
I finally managed to start my ute(feeling really excited). It actually was in a running condition but the previous owner used to start it by filling fuel directly in the carby.
It started well when I unloaded it from the tow truck but refused to start after a couple of days. Filled it up with petrol, changed the fuel filter, changed the oil & filter. Still was not able to start. When I press the speed cable I can see fuel coming out so guess my fuel pump is working. Figured out that when you press on the speed peddle and turn on the ignition the same time, it would start the ute. Dont know if this was the right thing to do but felt really happy :). Took it for a spin and already in love with this ute.
However when I tried to start this morning it refused to start, even when I pump on the speed peddle. Pumping the speed paddle just floods the carby with fuel.
Could it be a dodgy carby? Can someone please advise me of the best carburetor to use? It currently has got a manual choke cable, will it be better/easier to switch to automatic choke?
Thanks Guys,
Ron
