Here's some priceless info. Thanks to unfamilia and crumb.

http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/v ... 64&forum=1&post_id=459386

It is a tight fit. 5mm clearance to bonnet and around the same to crossmember.
My crossmember is not scalloped or spaced. Sump is reshaped.
Have to use thermo fan. Have to use sidedraft carbs, downdraft won't fit.
Can get L20b in without removing front end if you remove the gearbox. Re-attach it under the car.
Nizzpro in southport do engineering.
Its a fun project!

Did they sell the KA20 in oz? If not can you buy a cheap KA20 from japan engine importers? Cheaper and more powerful then a KA-headed L16.

Baz can do an L16 early non pollution block
with 90mm sleeves, Ka24 1+ oversize pistons
for 1985cc using a compression plate to seal
well but you should use the KA24De head :)

Ka24de head uses a 18r crank sprocket to use
the ka24de chain on the L series crank and just
needs a section of alloy plate where the Z20
timing chain cover meets the head.

l series into 1200 ... how did the box fit
If you put in a tunnel out of an automatic-equipped 1200 it will fit easy. See Tunnel for photos.

If you use the tunnel out of an manual-equipped 1200, it's a tight fit. Remove the gearbox mounts from the tunnel. Remove the front crossmember and lower the body over the engine/gearbox assembly.

Pig dog did my old x member and tunnel and pretty much all of the stuff I never did. I pulled it apart and re assembled it bit by bit.

Just to name a couple cause plenty have done the good old L conversion but look through PIGDOG's photo album and maybe his sedan build threads.
Ive done one and Unfamilia has done one just check out the project builds and photo albums.
L20b is as i discussed earlier with you a tight one I used a dead one to mock up my first cross member/conversion in an old rusty sedan shell it fits.
Ive herd of guys spacing the cross member down off the rail to gain a bit more clearance.
Personally i dont like that method but if done well/safely/properly it shouldnt cause to much drama but it would depend on how much you space things out.
Also theirs modding the sump/massaging it to get engine lower after scalloping the centre out of crossmember but please brace and reweld things up for yours and others safety.
