If you can get that engine cheap, go for it. At least one club member has the Z-18ET engine in their 1200.

If I recall correctly, it is similar to putting an L18 in, where mainly you need to make custom engines mounts, pound the tunnel out to fit the bigger trans, and have a custom driveshaft fitted. One problem to think about is which trans it has, some are too long for the 1200. Use the Search box on the left to search for Z-18ET or Z18T or something like that.

The Z18 hasn't been made for nearly 20 years. They would easily fit in a 1200, except that their 8 spark plugs make them a pain in the ass. You'd definitely have to rebuild the engine once you'd found one in reasonable condition. I've heard of people modifying them back to 4 spark plugs.

I've also heard that gaskets and spare parts for them are excrutiatingly hard to find. This is why people put CA's and SR's in the cars. It's a longer term solution.

I've seen some FWD QR-20's etc floating about. I wish someone would start looking at them. Even the QR20-DET out of the Japanese Terrano would be INTERESTING.
Although no car in AUS uses this engine yet, so it would be better to wait for the QR.

Hi, I know where I can get a cheap Z-18 with 5spd, computer and wiring loom. Does any one know what to do? And how hard it is to install one into a 1200 sedan?
