The main reason the engine mounts fail is because the engine and the front cross member are wrenching away with apposing forces and the rubber part of the engine mount where the rubber is adhered to the stud mounted plate fails .
If you drill a 8mm hole 15mm up from the normal mounting stud thru the engine mount bracket, thru the engine rubber mount then thru the cross member mount(parallel to the rubber engine mount stud)then put a grade 8 or higher threaded stud into the newly made hole and double nut both ends with 3mm clearance so the stud has a small amount of clearance to float.
This will all allow the compression of the rubber mount to function normally and when the engine lurches away from the compressed state it will be restricted by the floating stud.
The appearance will be almost normal but your engine mounts will last a lot longer.

Those "world class" mounts can't possibly break since they are encased in a tube. They are somewhat similar to what most 2017 cars use ...

But rather than re-engineer to mounting system, most used a stronger type of standard insulator

These round 'puck' insulators are similar to the stock Datsun insulators. They are rubber bonded to metal plates. But depending on the quality of the rubber and the bond type, some of them hold up much better

According to our wiki article Upgraded_Insulators ones made of polyurethane (racing type) are recommended -- for racing

These are the heavy duty engine mounts we were talking about. Broken engine mounts are a common thing in rally cars and this fixes the problem. Mounts are polyurethane and come out of a ford cortina and last for years of competition...Part number MT8156N. Kelpro make them...I usually just go to a good parts place and ask for cortina engine mounts and this is what they give me. Maybe there are two types, these are about 70mm in dia.

then there is the revised Maddat insulators, they were made softer to improve durability

More info and part numbers are in the wiki

You don't want to buy them by looks. Some look good, but are no stronger than the factory type. Others look exactly the same but are strong enough for off-road (dirt) racing

The SMCKA link is no longer working. But here's a photo of (perhaps) the same thing

that's a normal type engine mount, a rubber insulator. It may be stiffer or it may be softer than the 1200 part

Are these the engine mounts you are referring to? because i am in the market for a couple. and two of these can be had for cheaper than a single extension housing seal for an A series 4 speed. which i also need.

I'm not yet sure how good an idea this is but my engine mounts are cushioned by metal springs rather than rubber, specifically a stack of Belleville washers.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belleville_washer
They're stainless steel. I have four of them between the frame and the engine mount, then another four above the mount, with a bolt that goes through the whole works and is significantly smaller than the hole in the engine mount so it can move freely.

Thus far it's been working okay. The body doesn't jerk around from somewhat hard launches, and the washers certainly aren't going to fall apart any time soon.

This did require fabricating custom engine mounts, but I had to do that anyway.

Either that or make up a datsun specific variant of what Ford called the World Cup mounts for the Mark 2 Escorts, Basically what they did was made up a mount where the actual rubber was a Ford Transit leaf spring rubber the big one at the front fitted it into a tubular mount and then ran a through bolt such as an Unbrako through it and througn a couple of Tab mounts set up on the chassis.

Or make the mounts on the crossmember and the tabbed mount on the engine the linked page shows the detail basically unbreakable but still rubber isolation for vibration much better than solid mounts.

Thats a good idea 1)not relying on shear. 2)cheap replacement 3) break proteted
- will be keeping that one in the bank

the stock design is bad - for anything other than standard road use (genuine or not)

definitely upgrade - busted heaps of the stock ones
definitely don't go solid

check out the land rover engine mounts on ebay - forget the name of the exact ones (perhaps series 1 range rover), but there is a set that are just a round mount around 75mm diameter at a guess. i cut some off the base metal plate to clear the folded lip on the datsun crossmember. but i've been running one set on the rally car for years without breaking now
