Grinding the cam is done to change the profile. For example, the stock A12 profile is for maximum power at 6000 RPM. If you want a mild profile, they will regrind the cam to 5000 RPM or so. The form attached indicates a longer duration grind causing a slight lope and tuned for 6400 RPM use. If you replace the carburetor with a larger one it can take advantage of it, if you rev the engine higher it should make slightly more HP than the stock cam profile.

HONE is for the piston rings. If you don't do, the new rings will not seal
BORE is for fitting different size pistons. If you are fitting the same size pistons then don't bore the block

Need help with engine re-build.
Hey guys so i finally gathered all the stuff i need to do a rebuild on my A12 bottom end. if there anything else i should be buying/adding to my list please suggest it to me :D
-Con rod bearings -Crankshaft bearings -New flat top pistons -Piston rings -New chain -New chain pre-tentioner -New water pump -New Welsh plugs -ground up gasket kit
Still deciding whether i want to get some new cam followers (lifters) ..they look fine for there age but is it worth buying a new set just to be sure?? i need some opinion on this !
Also i need help with my new Pistons.... I have been told that i need to HONE the cylinder block before installing the new pistons.. im just wondering if this is mandatory and what will happen if i don't? and is there anyone that knows a engine shop in Australia, NSW around blacktown/Parramatta that can help me with my datsun motor that would be excellent :)
I am also trying to figure out ways to get all this orange rusty #OOPS# out of my blocks coolant passage.. the thing looks like it had no coolant its whole life and only water lol opinions ???
thanks for reading guys :D
