Cheaper than a used car lot, but not cheap. It was $4200 back in 1989. I learned to buy the fuel-injected police cars which were cheaper. The big ones were $1400, the small ones were more expensive. My all-time favorite was the 1985 LTD II, which was mid-size 4-door with 5.0 liter V8

That reminds me of one I never got. Back in the 1989-1991 I went to several police auctions to bid on police cars. That was the Mustang 5.0 pursuit special with factory roller cam and holley 4-barrel carburetor, at the time in the USA it was faster than almost anything on the road ... but a guy was at every auction bidding them up and he bought several. Never got one of those, but finally got a 1986 police mustang (the fuel-injected kine). It was fast too but in a quiet way and didn't sound so awesome like the 1985 model ... i sometimes wonder what if and think about that black & white paint job

When I was 18 I cruised the car yards for something fun
Mum had approved the ownership of a V8 so I was looking for one of those

Local car yard had a black HK Monaro in it
350 Chev , muncie rock crusher and 9"
passengers quarter window was held shut with a pair of vice grips
So I passed at $5k

3 cars over was an orange C210 coupe
Mint perfect condition
But cause it was a 6 I passed on that too
also $5k

Bought a 76 SS Torana hatchback instead

this was 1987

XC Falcon 500 coupe, ex police car, 351C, FMX, 9" diff' all in a plain white wrapper. Wanted $5000 in 1985. bought a 1200 coupe with paper & plastic (bog) side sills & a GX motor instead. Was more of a death trap than the Falcon.

Wish I'd have bought a Falcon XB Coupe back about 10 years ago when it was only $10,500 ... but I bought a 5.0 Mustang and two 1200s instead, had a lot of fun in any case
