No worries. I learned some new things today about Datsun alternators

If you need big amps, Bert's idea of using Patrol/200SX 90A is a good one. But then again the Falcon EA 85A is available cheap

Let's make it even simpler

In your photo is a 50A alternator -- suitable for EFI

IC REG means it has an internal regulator

I just checked ... Nissan used the 50A LR150 on the EFI A14 Sunny (see Sunny GX-E: Alternator

In Australia, some 1980s A12/A14/A15 came with 50A already ... maybe you already have a 50A alternator with your engine

To tell whether your have 35A or 50A, measure the alternator diameter
* 35A about 114mm diameter
* 50/60A about 129mm diameter

35A is definitely not enough for EFI -- it's only enough for ignition, headlights, heater fan and low-power stereo. If you plan on running a big-watt audio system, you'll want to get an 85A or 90A alternator

The simplest swap would be the stock A12 LT-135 for the LR-160

* LR-160 was used on Nissan EFI cars
* Bolt-on to late A engines. No mods needed
* No wiring changes needed
* No external VR needed

Apparently common on Subaru Leone/Brumby

See Hitachi LR Alternator

Yes, all Morris Minor has a VR, but it's likely not compatible with an alternator

If using a stock late A12/A14/A15 alternator, wire in the Sunny VR or Datsun 1200 VR. Better yet, choose an internally-regulated alternator for simpler wiring

I don't even know if I have a voltage regulator (pardon my ignorance)

the Voltage Regulator matches the alternator that you are using ... so if you swap an internally-regulated VR, discard your existing VR

Thanks for all the info guys! with the wiring mods this is all for a morris minor. I'm not sure what role the voltage reg is used for in my setup? I'll ask the guys
