Good on ya for having a go. It is a great sport and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. As I pointed out I'm not being negative, I'm just worried about the safety issue. I'm sure if you look around you'll be able to find someone to help you out with making a basic cage cheap. You may even find someone in this group that has a second hand cage for sale.....try it!
Don't get put off by getting lost in your first rally. It can be a little confusing but if the event is any good the organisers should give you plenty of time for the touring stages. Use it to make doubly sure of every instruction rather than panicking and rushing down the wrong road.
Good luck.

shhhh toull scare em off

there are some (bout 3 per year) novice events run in vic and possibly other states where cage is not required

i think its nuts too, but they are gonna let me and i cant quite afford a cage yet so im doin it

its feb 8
the first rally i did i only finished one stage cause of confusing signage, mind you we were the only car in 60 to not go straight by the "private property keep out" sign so i dunno

What worries me is how you can compete in a rally without a roll cage. I thought it was an FIA requirement for ALL rally cars (even at club level) to have at least a main hoop and 2 rear stays. Please don't take me the wrong way here, I am all for making it as easy as possible for young, enthusiastic people to join the sport but in my mind I reckon you would be crazy to compete in a car without a cage. A basic roll cage is not expensive....a life is.
