Yes there was, lucky me. Larger valves than A12 head complete with tiny round ports. What were they thinking.

As soon as i found this out, the head was replaced with the oval port version.

Cheers

how many diff types of a14 were made?

OK, so the basic types are:

A14 with round port head
A14 with oval port head (most common?)
A14GX side-draft engine (Japan only?)
A14 EFI (elusive forklift engine)

Every year in every country the A14 is a little different. For example, US engines have EGR and the head has air-pump passages in the oval port head.

The A12GX is an A12 engine with racing configuration, sold in the GX cars so that it could be legal for racing (homologated). There was also an A14GX engine in Japan.

The A12A is an A14-style block, different bore and stroke from the A12.

So for the A-series, there are:
A10
A12
A13 (1974 only)
A14
A12A
A15

The A12A was introduced from 8/79. The only obvious mod is the bore size increase over the A12. Details are sketchy..

Bore: 75mm
Stroke: 70mm
Conrod: 121.5mm
Block Hieght: 189.1mm
Displacement: 1237cc
Power: 69hp
