DD... I read the Tech Wiki on the pilot bushing which is supposed to be on the end of the crankshaft and typically does not need to be replaced. However my motor has a bushing inside of this pilot bushing. I wonder if the pilot bushing needed to be replaced and the mechanic could not remove it and pressed in another bushing and ground down the drive gear of transmission to make it fit. Once I get the inside bushing removed, then we can see what is going on.

The purpose of the spigot bush (aka pilot bearing) is for the manual transmission shaft to ride in when you push the clutch pedal down

Normally they last the life of the car, but if they need replacing for some reason they are tricky to remove. The two methods I've heard of are cutting/chiseling or hydraulic removal (some grease and a blow from a hammer pops it right out)

Benny....great idea. Will try that when I get back to it in a few days. So you have experienced these spigot bushes. Any idea why it was in there and the purpose? Thx.

I have previously removed steadfast spigot bushes by running a tap to cut a thread then use a bolt to screw in and bottom out in the crank, which in turn forces the spigot out as you continue to turn the bolt. At some point the bush will spin free.

I have no idea why I would have those bolts. Must of just grabbed them from the ground when I pulled the engine. I was hoping these were the intake or exhaust bolts which I need to locate in my pile.

The 4 speed with the modified input shaft is attached. Smooth case transmission. Standard shift pattern. I have a pile of transmissions.....

And the Spridget guy is Will out of Tennessee. His brother may be Bill?? Great company to do business with and yes an expert in Datsun gearboxes.

60A 5-speed is H-pattern
60L is dogleg

Is the spridget guy Bill? He is the expert

These are the strut-to-steering-knuckle bolts. The washers are for something else

DD...no such luck. That plug is pressed in there. Will have to get a machine shop to drill it out. Not sure why this was put in there. Maybe there is a problem with the crankshaft end and they had to cap it?

So the drive gear that is ground down is the 60 series 4 speed. The other drive gear shown is the FS5W60A. The crankshaft end shown with the mirror is the engine being rebuilt and has no plug. A Spridget guy here in the US that rebuilds these transmissions said the bell housings for both 4 and 5 speed 60 series are interchangable??

Before I close out this thread there are a couple of other bolts that I am not sure of. Any idea?

I will start another thread on the 2 types of alternators I have.

yeah kinda looks that way

Which picture is which?

To remove pilot bush, fill with grease, then drive in a tight-fitting dowl. The grease will force the bushing out. Maybe that will work for this "plug" whatever that is. A-series automatic as far as i know has nothing in the crank, but a large spacer fitted over the flange

F4W60L shares parts with FS5W60L. It was basicall a fifth gear added to the four speed which is why it is a dogleg

The 60A version is nearly all changed. The front case (transmission case with bell pattern) is not interchangeable i believe it has three shift rails vs two shift rails

Pilot bush in "Crankshaft4" pic looks to be incorrect and has a step section at the bottom. This would not allow the input shaft to slide in all the way....
