I dunno if the Fiat balljoints etc would slip in the 1200 steering arms, I did have a tapered reamer made for a very similar purpose...
Yeah, the PCD is different, but if you aint swapping struts..... Also, the ford struts have heaps of room for re-drilling PCD if you did use them.

Great idea on the fiat rack. I ran the ford struts swapped left/right to work with the datto steering box before I converted to the rack.
Fiats also have a nice little steering column with two u joints in it which are bloody usefull to get the rack and the steering wheel connected!

Swapping the struts will work, and if your concerned about weight look for a rack out of a Fiat 124/125 as they are the same size/ ratio and are alloy for even greater weight saving.

ok cool. also do you think u could adapt the stanza struts to suit R&P steering? by swaping the struts to the opp. sides which will also put the brakes at the front which supposedly is better than having them at the back. or am i just living in a make believe land
thanx

Yep, my 1200 circuit car ran very short escort struts and rack. the rack goes in front of the xmember, so with a 12 inch engine setback you can drop the donk down quite low completely behind the rack without snarling your steering arms.
I cut the standard rubber mounting points off the rack and welded solid mounts on. All the suspension arms were fabricated up out of chromemoly, I used hi misalignment rosejoints instead of the standard balljoints. worked a treat, weighed nothing and with capri vented disks stopped like you wouldnt believe!

I am doing that with the new coupe I am building up. I won't be using an escort rack...it will probably be Toyota or even Morris Minor. The Morris rack is very high geared, cheap and strong and has been used a lot for transplants into race cars.
