another early LZ head at auction. Did not sell at 450,000 yen (4,600 aud or 3,000 usd)
https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h1102527288

Might be the same head as sold a year ago last January for 485,000

Quote:
Davie: What was auctioned was an early LZ14 head from around 1973, PB110 era, there's less than ten operational world wide. It was a bare head, and the price was kinda reasonable, but to recommission it would cost lots, no valves valve springs cams and more importantly cam buckets.

Auction ended 26 August 2023
Quote:
サニーエクセレント TSレーシング LZ14 シリンダーヘッドです

Sunny Excellent TS Racing LZ14 cylinder head.

I don't know if those are new yet-to-be-used valve seats installed, but i'm surprised it looks to be just a one-angle type and not blended into the ports very well. Even a stock A12 has three-angle valve seats

The beauty of these head are not that they are just twin-cam, but more that they are 16-valve heads. A junkyard KA24DE would be more powerful perhaps, but this is period cool

seems to be some confusion here. What was auctioned was an early LZ14 head from around 1973, PB110 era, there's less than ten operational world wide. It was a bare head, and the price was kinda reasonable, but to recommission it would cost lots, no valves valve springs cams and more importantly cam buckets. The green LZ20B is a type 2 rally head probably PA10 or S10, there's a few of these around at least four running engines in Australia, 1 x LZ20B, 1 x LZ18 and LZ14 rally engines and one turboed LZ20B track engine.

There is currently an LZ20B head and turbo on yahoo auctions, it's a bare head and would cost around $30k on top of the purchase price to make it work.

The cams from the type 1 and type 2 heads are not interchangeable

Just in case there are no purists for the A series, I found the A14 & A15 short blocks
just as heavy as the stock ca18de and L16 short blocks.

The A14/A15 are heavy nuggets but the L series heads are heavier than A series.

The early non pollution L16 is overlooked engine that can take large pistons
L18 crankshaft and a roller rocker NA20P heady from Alibaba for almost 2000cc

KA24de fits easily to give a cheap twin cam L series hybrid that can use webers.
This one is a highly tuned L series with Ka24de head that made 284hp @ high 7k rpm.
Built by Les Collins for a Perth dude that once owned my vb10 wagon.

That is the Twin-Cam head that was just sold Sunday at auction for $5000

The auction title was Quote:
NISSAN Sunny Excellent Racing Head Twin Cam Head for Race Nissan Works B110 B210 B310 TS Sunny TS1300
Yes, that would be the LZ14 engine which was used in the 1973 Sunny PB210 race car

The auction description was a bit confused:
Quote:
サニークーペエクセレントに搭載されたR390型エンジンのツインカムヘッドだと思いますが、資料が少なく断定できません。
非常にコンパクトなのが印象的です。 [I think it's the twin cam head of the R390 engine installed in the Sunny Coupe Excellent, but there are not enough materials to be sure.]
However, the Nissan R390 was made in the 1990s, used a V8 and was not a Sunny variant. The engine used in the Sunny Excellent was an L-series engine, and the twin-cam racing version was the DOHC LZ engine

All our previous LZ photos show square covers over the cam ends:
Open in new window

But Nissan Global explains Quote:
The head cover has a rounded shape that is different from the later flat type
Yep, hard to see, but the early LZ race car seems to have them. Here's a photo from the old ratdats site:
Open in new window

That seems to match the auction photo:

and final confirmation, the combustion face photo matches the photo from Nissan Global:

Here's the last photo from the auction. I think its the exhaust ports

WOW!

That's the rear Nissan race hemi AY12 engine. The DOHC version (AZ12 engine) was never made

Great pictures i never seen details like those. Too bad they didn't get a picture of the combustion chambers

* 1973 Nissan works engine
* 160 horsepowers @ 8,800 rpm
* Single-cam engine
* overhead valve (pushrod engine)
* dual rocker arms

Similar to the Chrysler Hemi, except it doesn't appear to have top-down spark plugs but rather they are on the side?

At the bottom of this magazine article page is the design for the DOHC A12 -- buy it's only a drawing
