Commodore on all four would make things sweet, i had a vl strut bolted in except the spring hit, so thats no problems.

I have been told vx struts are the go, they run a similar bolt on hub style strut like fwd cars, much stonger and no flex.

I assume you got axles made up chris? I noticed that even making the diff have two short axels its still too wide by about 100mm. Is this right?

Thanks, I will make sure I check it out soon

Man, I didn't know that... I would have gone for the Commodore fronts too, but I'd already done my front struts. With the Verada Gear.

The conversion for Datsun 4 stud, was quite hard. I'd stick with Commodore 5 stud, and use Commodore struts.

If I find an HSV Commodore with big Brembos I'll have to look at the commodore hubs and see if they can be converted to 4 stud.

You are welcome to come and look at the install any time.

Chris

I was talking to a guy that does alot of track work for GTP, club cars ect and he said the commodore diff with a fully adjustable 4 link would be the way to go.

Explained it well and probaby even gave me to confidence and info to have have a go my self.

Dattodude, might have to come and checkout yours when this come close to starting... yours will prob be on road by the anyhow.

I am thinking of commodore rear, so why not commodore struts? they bolt it, just cut them down, throw a threaded sleeve on, and you have commodore stud pattern all round with excellent brake and wheel options.

(The fact i get cost holden parts helps too)

Which van? which year? which one? ...

I dunno which van. I work in the city (where there's plenty of them), and I'm keeping an eye out. I don't profess to be a guru at everything (unless I've had too many beers)..it was just an observation I made recently.

I'll keep looking for you.

I have on the floor a complete rear suspension from an MX5 Miata. I had a look at it for the Chickenhawk. It is quite a bit wider than a 1200 axle, 3 or 4 inches I think

I have already started this project. I've cut 100mm cut out of the centre which is really easy to do because it is a complete subframe. Regarding the problem with the upper arms, because it is going into a coupe it is not too much of a major to make the necessary mods for clearance. Being a rally car, rear suspension travel will be a priority...something that is a real problem with the standard rear suspension because of a lack of clearance between the diff legs and the chassis rails. This setup will cure that. The diffhead will also need to be changed...I need a ratio of around 4.8 to 5.1:1 LSD which at this stage it looks like being either Nissan or Toyota.
I'll keep you in touch with progress.

(Sorry about diverting from the original subject!)

silivia idea crossed my mind, but the easier options seem to be my pick, can't spend too much and can't be working on it for years

IRS in a 1200 would be very sweet though

Ok, so here is something different....what are your thoughts on IRS? Something along the lines of a Mazda MX5, double wishbone type....

I have on the floor a complete rear suspension from an MX5 Miata. I had a look at it for the Chickenhawk. It is quite a bit wider than a 1200 axle, 3 or 4 inches I think. The other problem I encountered, and what ultimately talked me out of the conversion, was that I couldnt get the car low enough without taking the upper arms through the inner fenders. It could be done and would be really trick, but I wasn't ready to commit to it.
I have to say this though, it is a much simpler and more elegant setup than the 240SX (Sylvia?) setup that we have on the floor next to it!
