Ah, got it. The Capri II sold in the US was from Ford of Germany, but looks similar to some of the UK Escort photos I've seen. I see the Escort MKI in the photo album is quite different.

Ford of US made a big deal about the 1980 Escort being a "worldcar", available worldwide. But that was a front-wheel-drive model.

The Escorts we are on about are British. They have nothing to do with the US Escorts. They were all 4 cyl starting at 1100cc,1300, 1600 pushrod thru to 1600 Lotus twin cam, 1600 and 1800 BDA twin cam and sohc 2000cc. The Mk 1 and 2 shared the same floorpans and suspension. My other half being a true blue Ford girl has a Mk1 English built RS2000 to keep her Aussie built XC GS 351 Falcon company.

aww crikey ... I had to find out what these "Escorts" are, since in the US we only got the lame fwd "worldcar" Escorts (1980-1987).

But I still couldn't figure it out. Is this the same as the Ford "Mercury Capri II" sold in the US 1974-1977? They came with the 2300cc Ford engine or the 2800cc German Ford V6. These were pretty good cars, especially compared to the 74-78 Ford Pinto and Ford Mustang with the same engine.

Ah not quite..the RS2000 had the 2 litre ohc engine. The Lotus Escort was 1600cc twin cam. Funny thing about the "boxy styling" many people mistake my coupes for Mk 2 Escorts.....

yeah i am talking about looks in escort because after the mk1s the escort went boxy, and they put that square grill on the fron t

most of the escorts had good engines like the mk1 R2000 with the lotus twin cam im pretty sure anyway. ( i think the mexcio had that engine to)
