I know some people whos dattos are with a group called VGL and as long as the car is engineered if it has mods they are fine and the prices are reasonable.

One thing I would like to point out for wheel sizes is, like what has been said 2in bigger in diameter and 1 in wider.
But if you have up graded your brakes and its engineered, if you now have stanza brakes this is what the sizing now goes off.
I think that stanzas come with 13 as standard ( might be 14's) but now you can leagally put 15's and as long as the engineer is happy with the brake upgrade this size will pass.
The engineer can even approve bigger if he finds it to be satisfactory.

Insurance is an ongoing problem for all of us, especially young ones.

My advise, everyone should be insured and do it legally, if you cann't afford to insure a modded car, then don't mod the car, its not worth it and you'll and up spending alot more than you planned.

For the cost of doing things properly, its alot cheaper than getting caught out in a accident that could cost tens of thousands and finding your insurance is void, in this day in age, its easy to rack up a big accident bill.

My two cents

just cars is good too, specially if your young, shannons wont touch youngens

but the cars gotta be road worthy, which means engineers for any brake or suspension mods

and as you can only go two inches larger and 1 inch wider as far as wheels go the 15" are not road worthy, i guess they would have to be engineered

only prob with dodgy way suggested before is if someone dies in accident then you dont get oppurtunity to change stuff, and thats when you are in serious #### if its your fault

just something to consider

its hard to pay insurance i reckon cause with a moded car you know they are gonna find some bullshit thing to not have to pay you out anyway, to be honest i havent had insurance for the year ive had my car cause i know it needs engineering but everything gets swapped over so often that i need to renew it like every two weeks and if i have a stack i probably wont be insured even though i forked out like $800 to some bullshit company

yes ive finished having a winge

Shannons will do it if youre in Aus...I assume you are ...they insure classics and race vehicles.

I had an MR2 race car they insured. They will inspect it and agree to a value with you. They are quite reasonable in rates too.

Yeah l've had the same trouble. There are two ways to handle this.
1. Dont tell them about the changes to your car that are easily changed over..ie wheels. This way you can just put the stockers back on before the accident inspection.

2. Go to an insurance company that allows all street legal modifications, and usually allow you to tell them how much its worth and your premium is adjusted accordingly.

If you are in Victoria, l'd try Unique, especially since you'd be rating 1???? They base your premium on your driving history as well as accident history.

My ute is valued at $4000 (third party only) and l pay $280 year. And they allow any street legal mods (incl eng certs)

Guys,
Been down to the local insurance company (NRMA) to get full comprehensive but to my avail they tell me they wont insure me because, 1 the TRX wheels I have are to big (I am only allowed to go up to 14x5) & 2 they will only pay me up to $1200 if the car gets written off. For f@%# sake I have held a policy with these guys for over seven years with no claim and this is how they treat you.
Has anybody had this sort of trouble before with insurance companys and can anybody recomend someone who will insure my ute.
