I'm the guy with the Weber and its sold! I had it on a Sunny Wagon and it improved performance of a standard engine (A14) like you wouldn't believe.

We run a home built clubman with a bored (78mm) A14 and option 1 gear box and it is really quick --- 13.3 sec quarter mile

Good explanation. Another thing to add is that the size doesn't indicate how much air the carb flows. 32/36, 38, or 42 is just the size of the throttle bore. What's more telling is the venturi size. The sidedrafts are advertised with certain sizes ("42s" will widely vary in venturi size). The downdraft Weber/Holley also can have different size venturis, but not always advertised as such. A stock 1200 probably works best with smaller venturis, a racing 1200 would like bigger venturis. If they are too big, the fuel economy and low-speed hp can suffer.

32/36 Weber carburator is a unit that works vertically(known as downdraft weber), and has 2 throtles, one primary(opens first)... and a secondary one (opens later at higher RPM.). Each throatle has a flap, or valve, the first one is a 32 size, the second is a 36 size. There is another vertical (downdraft) weber carburator, the 38 syncro, in which the flaps open both at the same time, syncronized. DCOE weber carburators are sidedraft (horizontal) in operation. The vertical or horizontal(downdraft or sidedraft) terminology is in reference to its position on the manifold(intake manifold), the downdraft sits on the stock manifold(same as the stock carburator)and has an air/gas vertical flow into the intake manifoold.... wheras the sidedraft has its own manifold(not the stock one) which acts as bridge between the cylinder head intake ports and the sidedraft carburator, which allows a horizontal flow of gas/air into the intake manifold.
I do not know if you already knew this, just trying to help in case you did not have this idea straight, if you do, do not take me wrong, just trying to help out.
Jaime

Y'all are assuming he wanted to stay downdraft. He might want a single or dual sidedraft. Anyone got a price for him on those?

From what I have seen, most people use the standard manifold and use and adaptor ontop of that. Then the weber on that. I think that the adaptors are around $40 from Autobarn type places or a carby places.
Weber can be whatever you pick it up for depending on the condition.
