no it's not on a uni budget and at the moment is not my only car but will be soon having to sell other car to buy a house which means my own large shed and possibilities for another car probably another 120y coupe and turn it into a ute with a half cage i'm quite tall and don't fit into a 1200 ute the diff and brake idea is cool any suggestions? but due to lots of driving in 100/110 zones my car calls for a fifth gear. if the diff change helps that then i'll go for that option but i doubt it the brakes are always a good idea but do you have to get them checked by a engineer if you change them? just tell me if there are too many questions

Yeah dellow do the whole package which is what I got, I am quite sure they would put in recon's but the one i got is great.

As for Ca's the price of the conversion is upto you, if you go with standard everything, it wouldn't be too dear as long as you do alot of the work ya self, because there is alot of work in it.

Oh yeah..I nearly forgot..Read old posts on the installation of a Z18ET into a 120Y, using the 180B crossmember, it's supposed to be a very easy transplant.

I'm just saying think about it. Doing a CA18DE conversion is a great way to upgrade to a DET, when you turn 25, or when you can afford it, whatever comes first. If it's your only car, then you'll need to think strongly about the impact of having your car off the road for a couple of months.
Is this being done on a Uni Student budget?

If you are needing a higher top speed, then best thing you could do is fit a 3.5->3.7 diff.

Would cost you about the same as the gearbox, and if you fitted a bigger diff, you'd be ready for a CA18 future. Buying the dellow and celica box will tie up a fair bit of investment in the A-series combination. Go for brakes and diff first. That way you'll be safe, get the improved cruising ability, and be on track for a future CA conversion.

And if you get sick of the 120Y, and decide a 1200 would be better, you can transplant across the parts...handy!

so in the long run how much is a ca18 conversion and what major changes do i need to do other than diff, g/box, do i need Discs all round? aftermarket computer, is the 120y booster fine or do i need something bigger? i have an article about a perth built 1200 ute orange one with a ca18det and it cost him a fortune and he did a lot of the work himself, you have me on a really different track now im excited

Hi. Sounds like the plan. As for the Celica/Dellow question. Dellow make the housings, I don't think they sell them as a package deal. I could be wrong. My first CA18 conversion was done, because of the cost of 5 speeds for A-series engines, and the cost to hotrod an A15.

It would be cheaper in the longrun to install a CA18.

hey im a new guy round these parts and just to let you know im not a 1200 owner im a 120y owner in the coupe model it's a 74 with a 1400, 120y 4spd, 2inch sports exhaust and mags. It's currently in bits being prepped for respray in subaru WRX blue and copping a new interior retrim i'm sourcing around for a good celica 5spd but i've heard a few conflicting things, do the dellow celica to A series come with a recon gearbox or not because i've been told both,
i hope you can help thanxs.
