I have to agree with Matts earlier post and say that in NZ, most drivers of older Dattos I know or have met have been pretty cool. As the owner of a 1600, lots of 1200 owners seem to wave or say Hi when (or If) Im out and about. IMO the 1200 and 1600 were Datsuns great little cars, and always will be. Its a damn shame about the brain-dead over-financed morons who thrash their silver GTS-T Skylines/EVo/GTX/Whatever with Brand X super-woosh BOV and those kick-ass blue LED washer nozzles . From what I've seen (and sure there are a few exceptions) most of them think the more crap you can bolt to your car- the better and driving like an idiot ALL the time is cool. These losers ruin the modified car scene for all of us and brand anyone with a slightly different car as a 'hoon' in the general public's eyes. These are the drivers that really suck. Sorry to ramble :)

Ok any Datsun snobery is just plan silly arsed. I've competed in the 1200 , B210 , 510 and 240 and they are all fun but I like the lightwight 1200 best ( Remember I was a 125cc bike road racer so I like tiny racers).
First off let's review what Datsuns were - they were el cheapo econo box disposable Japanese cars. Even the 240Z was a "bargain" sports car.
Now of course motor heads all over the world quickly discovered that the were ultra reliable and extremely rugged cars that could be hotted up at bargain prices. The result was a car that won championships on the race track and still cost less than the "pedigree" sports cars of the day. I built my whole 1200 for what some of my freinds paid for pistons for their cars plus mine is more fun to own.
So Datsuns are cars for people more concerned with fun and performance than image. So needless to say anyone who owns a particular model of Datsun and is a snob about it is just plain laughable. My recommendation to these snobs would be by a Porsche , Ferrari or Jag.

Tom Grossmann , lover of oprhan cars

PS why do I have the image of a chuffuer driven 510 , to funny.

thank you,

there is one 1600 driver thats been seriously ####ting me, i see him like once or twice a week on the way to work and he refuses to look at my datsun, im always looking across at him and stuff and he never acknowledges anything

worst part is that hes 1600 looks like its all been done up for rally and im driving my rally car so he isnt even acknowledging a fellow rally car!

but hey ya get that

Actually, round here I have noticed an increasing number of 1600 owners that don't seem to care for datsun's at all. I got my 1600 cause I am a lover of all things datsun, and when I got it all the 1600 owners were datsun lovers. But since having mine so many people are getting them, and have no respect for them. It disgusts me. There are so many getting around now that are just ruined because the people who own them just have no idea.
I'm now sorry that I defended these people when this thread was started

Here in NZ I don't think there's the same level of '1600 superiority complex' you Aussies talk of. Maybe it's because as Matt said there are bugger all 1600s in NZ, I don't know. But as the owner of a 1600 and a 1200 and even a Z, I haven't noticed any snobbery.

I only wish I could make it to south Aus to kick some 1600 ass. The misses is due for our second child that week so I dont think Ill stretch the freindship and go datsun racing for the weekend.
I noticed the Datsun nationals advertising mainly 1600 stuff its a shame. I think a neat fast datsun no matter what model should be allowed to enter not only 1600's.

Don't know any 1600 owners, don't see many on the road here, don't understand the fuss.

My pet gripe would be the guys I like to refer to as "young, dumb, and full of H.P.", they obviously have no taste, no mechanical ability, no originality, and no taste. EDIT: Did I mention no taste?

I am sick of seeing countless numbers of Skylines dragging there arses on the road, with a big set of wheels and an exhaust that drones like a 44 gallon drum.

Not to mention the ways in which their actions are ruining it for the rest of us!

That's right. I have noticed an increase in snobbery in 1600 circles. Take for example the Datsun Nationals in Adelaide this year, the caveat.."preference will be given to 510s for track events'. It almost turns me off going, except that I want to go to show 'em how to do it..

Owning a 1200 is about being an outcast from the rest of society, present company excluded, where we are very welcome.

I think 510 owners are becoming Roadster owners in the superiority complex stakes. The lack of parts availability has created a niche for egotists who can't succeed in other areas of their life.

That's why I limit my harrassment of 120Y, 1000 or Sunny owners. I'm of the opinion that if you're a Datsun owner, you are a bit twisted, this makes you "OK" in my books.

So let's promote "no Attitude" as a Datsun owner quality.
