I was reading how they listed the times...I had no idea that QLD Raceway had different rack configurations...sorry. I do agree that they really are sophisticated racing machines for a tin-top. My argument was that they suck up alot of money and resources for lap times that are not that sensational compared to the expense. Whereas the 1200 and other little cars run on limited budgets can match...or go close to matching times out of someones back pocket. I know that Stevo1000 and his coupe is doing sensational times for $8500.
Bang for your buck you cannot go past the 1200's

yeah, I know that 1000 coupe Sport Sedan. Don't know the owner, only spoken to him once years ago in the pits. It was very competitive at Lakeside, especially in the wet! It gives away alot of straight line speed, but was a very good handler and under brakes. At a track like Lakeside he could nip at the heels of the top QLD SportSedans in the dry, and was an outright contender in the wet. I assume the almost record is a class thing. It certainly would not be an outright Sport Sedan record. The V8 Supercar record at Lakeside is held by Seton at a high 51 or low 52.

For our latest internet search expert, and those of you who aren't familiar with QLD Raceway, there's a few different track configurations used at different race meetings. The 1000 Sport Sedan time is obviously from the short circuit used at alot of club level meetings. While the V8 Supercar's times are from the full track.

to demonstrate, here' some actual comparison times (from Natsoft) with both categories on the same circuit, on the same day, at last year's QLD 500:

SPORT SEDAN at 2002 QLD 500 QUAL
--------------------------------
1 Kerry Baily Nissan 300ZX 6000cc 1:07.3191*
5 Tony Ricciardello Alfa Chev 6000cc 1:08.8382
38 Stephen Voight Honda Prelude 6000cc 1:10.4343
13 Mark Stinson Holden Calibra 6000cc 1:10.6455

V8 SUPERCARS at 2002 QLD 500 QUAL
---------------------------------
11 L.Perkins/R.Ingall Holden Commodore VX 5000cc 1:09.9367R

4 of the best Sport sedans in the country went under 1:11:00, compared to 17 V8 Supercars.

V8 Supercars are highly developed race cars, and damned fast tin tops with the best drivers in the country and million dollar budgets behind them. If you think you can "whoop" V8 Supercars [i]"relatively easy with a limited budget" you haven't got a clue about motorsport.

Thats it...commodores and falcons are one thing. But if they enter a V8 Magna, I'm NOT watching!

I agree with you Ange and Feral, I love all types of motorsport....anything to promote the sport as the best in the world is great. I was just pointing out to Harry that whooping a V8 Supercar is relatively easy to do with a limited budget. I still love the V8's but theres no way Im going to work myself into a frenzy to try to spend HUGE money and go slower.

Thats incredible craig but its wrong in one area surely: hes asking 15k but he only spent bout 5k to get that first 58 second lap then he spent more on upgrading the thing. If that thing isnt an underdog I dont know what is.

Also no one would pay 15k for that thing when you can build a prettier one like Stevos.. oh except for that rude rear wing.

people should worry about what 'they' like.... rather than worry about bagging people for having different interests...... i personally like all types of motorsport.... some more than others of course..... apparently in 2006 mitsubishi is joining the v8 supercars with an all new v8 mitsu...
wonder if its gonna be a magna???

Yeah D here it is, Gary Hamiltons 1000 coupe he had it for sale for around 15 grand.
Now for the skeptics....this coupe did a 57.71 at Qld Raceway 14/4/02 amd the V8 supercars were lapping at the Qld 500 1.11.74.
That coupe was a full 14 secs a lap quicker than the quickest supercar.
For proof here are the links
coupe times:-racetime results ssedan 14/4/02
V8 Supercar times:-racetimme vip petfoods qld 500 2002

Datsun 100 Coupe sports sedan

Hows that...400 grand per car versus 15grand and you would have to spend another 400 grand to get a V8 Supercar to get within a few seconds of the 1000 Coupes times...GO FIGURE.
Now all members...appreciate what weve got in this club...the best kept secret in the motor racing world
