couldn't agree more with everything Feral said. Track days are so much fun, and you'll learn more about your car and yourself in one day on a track than you ever will on the road. And when you leave the track you just don't feel like 'hooning' around on the streets - it simply doesn't compare.

Only problem is it can be very addictive...

Hey guys, what a day!!

"it's the best fun you can have with your pants on" ; well isn't that an understatement !!

Errol, you are spot on mate.....for the sake of a few bucks, much more fun can be had on the track without worring about anthing else.

Honestly guys, if you've ever thought testing your true car and driving skill, it could not be easier.

For less than $200, you can go as stupid as you please :)

Well I should know better, but I just love it.

Its the best fun you can have with your pants on!!!!!!

I believe most young people would get a lot from joining a car club, and doing some base level motorsport. There is no pressure apart from you setting yourself personal goals, and no one else has to know what they are!

You are only competing aginst yourself and it is really good for developing personal driving skills. This may help you get you out of sticky situations.

I saw a couple of young guys (P plates) in a blue 1600 on the way home tonight. They were playing boy racer at the lights. I guess they had nothing better to do.

I think membership of a club and successful competition of 3-5 track days could be a way of educating new drivers and if they are deemed competent buy a panel of peers they should have their probation time reduced. I think that circuit driving would teach basic car control skills far exceeding driving school requirements. (Now that should create some controversy!!!!)

Best of all it may get some good street drivers into club level motor sport where they can show their skills on the track!

To compete you need to join a club first ($65 a year membership). Then you can apply for a Level 2 Cams licence on ther CAMS wesite.

I am posting some pics of the sunny coupe from today in the miscellaneous pics section.

Cheers
Feral Errol.

Cheers

2 and a bit seconds isn't much..and man it's amazing to hear how much faster Cam makes his way around sandown. It's quite an inspiration to hear you guys talking about racing your cars. I sure look forward to a few fast laps on a club track day. and if I can afford it, actually racing regularly.

Well,
Had a good day and didnt break anything.

The dreaded Pooley boys flogged hell out of me (1:36.8 vs 1 :39 ) . I am determined to have my revenge!!!!!!!!!

Cam did a 1:28 in the 1600 SR20 turbo and looks like taking a second in class to a very big buck BMW M3.

Cheers
Feral Errol

Found the problem, the MSD 6AL was auto triggering the rev limiter at 6250 rpm. Took it off and the miss has gone so no excuses

Wish I could have optimised mixtures for the top end!

Doubt I would get near Cams times as Sandown is a power circuit, with the long uphill back straight and the long main straight. Turbo territory.

Hate those mystery misses... Why do they only ever show up when you're paying for dyno time by the hour????
I reckon you could fly a plane across the atlantic troublefree, but bolt it to a dyno and it would miss/refuse to start/blow all the oil out/all of the above.....
