mic, ive seen a 1220 ute with a wood tray/steel back in melb. I thought it was this mazda 1300 wood tray ute ive seen before firsts but it was not (different colour blue). It was in the templestowe area. Not bad looking. Still had the body panels from the tray down. Looked like the just cut from the tray base up off the rear of the ute.

There was a "Datsun 1200 Truck" in the early 60s that was a regular frame-on-body truck. I think it may be body style 320? In 1964 they had a small number of "Datsun 1200 Sport Truck" made with integral-body tray.

That's probably what they are thinking of, the older Datsun 1200 Truck. The B110-based B120 (Datsun 1200 ute) has the integral-body tray.

i hear there is some utes kicking about (very rare though) which did not have the full body tray factory fitted but had a seprate wood with steel frame setup.

is it true???

as im told of someone in Darwin who has one of these as a paddock basher, apparently its rusty but not sure how bad, im getting the person who told me about it to chase up more detail and i possibly may be snatching it up as my next rallycar / restoration (long story but i think i may be able to rally with an a-14 if i have a ute)
