Hey buff i encountered the same sort of problem but ive got a ca18det. The engine was missing untill 3500 rpm where the boost kicks in. maybe thats where your cams kick in on ur non turbo engine. It actually turned out to be the head gasket which had blown a small gap between 1 + 2 cylinder. a compression test will check for this problem.

I'll second DVLDAT. Often when it misses at light throttle this is the problem.

Visually inspect the spark plug wires carefully. Then measure resistance with an ohmmeter. Should be around 10,000 ohms per foot.

Anyone got any ideas on a CA18DE (Non Turbo) Motor that misses and hesitates between about 1200rpm and 3000?

Idles and starts fine
Goes well above about 3000
Problem is there all the time not necessarily under load.
Seems to improve a bit as engine warms up.

I was thinking along the lines of maybe a vacuum leak somewhere amongst all the little vacuum lines, not sure though - can't find any info on a vacuum hose schematic or something.

What do you guys reckon??

Any common problems with these motors I can start with before delving deep into the unknown....................
