A big advantage of water injection is that you can run a far higher comp. ratio, so power is going to go UP.
When I was an engineering stude, I recall reading a paper about some guy in UK who modified a 250cc BSA bike engine so that about 25% of the charge going thro it was water. I ran very nicely on about 14 or 15:1 CR and gave about 28 BHP.---this is in the 1930's remember

Surprisingly water injection also helps clean the internals of the engine - but it should be shut off well and truly before the engine is switched off otherwise you can be left with water sitting in the bores.

A friend of mine runs a 2500PI Triumph in Targa and he uses a water atomiser from an agricultural supplies company and sprays the water into the injection plenum. He says it helps calm the motor down when they are running it hard at high revs for long periods.

I've planned to do it for ages but not got around to it. My friends have a button half way down the gearstick and just turn it on during races etc when they think they need it.

It has other benefits too - but I'll have to go check my notes.

water injection...wouldnt it mix witht he fuel and make it less potent ?
You still have just as much fuel and air (practically speaking), so the answer is no. Instead, the water cools the a/f mixture, so you advance the timing. The effect is similar to intercooling, but it's done internally (it cools the mixtuer in the cylinder during combustion).

There have a been a few factory turbo cars that used water injection, but I did not realize you could use it to positive effect on a normally aspirated engine.

yes water injection. the cheep way to do it is run a hose to either the inlet manafold or secondary ventury. the carb will create enough suction to pull water in which will mix with the fuel and air and once ignited will create steam = torque. this will make your engine run cooler and you can advance the timing by up to 10 degrees. the only down sides are it rusts your exhorst out real quick. still it will give you a ####e load more power. If anones interested ill try to get hold of the info and test results and setup plains and scan them on for you, my mate has all the info youll need.
