Are you sure it`s the steering box ?
Have you checked your drag-link yet?
It could have all the play in that?
Worth a look !

yeh a mate of mine runs a 310sunny steering box in his 1200 coupe rally car the 310 box has a quicker ratio
I had considered putting a 310 sunny steering box and colum in my last ute, but sold it before it happened

Yeh! the B310 (Sunny)has a rubber disc coupling joining the column/shaft to the box and the B210 ute's steering column/shaft attaches directly to the box.
Ute is a commercial vehicle, it wouldn't have had to meet certain ADR requirements.
I don't remember the 120Y configure.

All 1200s use the same box. There are steering column differences but they are internal and parts do swap between the 2 kinds. The diffence relates mainly to the collapsible section inside the cabin. I'd recommend either looking for a late model 1200 Ute being wrecked, or get your one rebuilt. They just weren't designed to last for 30 years.

I didn't think any other models had the same one.

The 120Y and Sunny steering box is the same as all 1200's in NZ. Should be the case here in Aus too but Nissan Australia did do some wacky stuff that didn't happen elsewhere - like putting a 4 cylinder twin spark in a Skyline.
