Any way ive striped the gearbox, i couldnt be bothered waiting for the new one, and for an OLD box she ant bad. its had a strip and rebuild at some stage and the guy who did it didnt lock off the nut that holds the selector on to the arm. its got a hole in it and an other hole in the are which youre sposed to run a wire to stop it falling into the gears and it wasnt done. i think ill locktight the nut in this time as well, even though it as the easiest gearbox ive ever had to remove i dont feel like doing it again.

1920's is getting pretty old.
Pre 1920, now that's probably OLD.

Some people don't know when they are well off with readily available late model cars & parts.
Try mixing with the vintage & veteran car people to get a grip on reality.

i killed it this morning, and therefore found out what was wrong (i think). the selector fork has a screw holding it on to the selector arm. i think its come loose and this morning it was playing up and then between changing from 2nd to 3rd it lost all gears, the movement went totally loose and then it started grinding. i think the screw came off and tried to take some teeth with it. Its a real pain in the ass coz im racing next saterday. ive got it out of the car and a new box should be here by wed to fit.

She's not necessarily on her way out. Don't worry about the amount of movement as when the nylon bushes on the end of the gear lever are worn it'll slop as much as you are mentioning. Check your gearbox fluid level and your clutch adjustment. Either of these can cause difficulty shifting especuially a worn clutch or one needing a cable adjustment. If there are no noises then it's swede as.

my gearbox has been playing up. its the standard a12 box behind a 100hp a12. its getting hard to get into 2nd and once in any of the gears the gear stick can move as much as if in neutral. its not making any noises, thats whats confusing me. the amount of movement is huge.
