The whole NSW fleet is was run by the "Automotive-Plant" section in Sydney with about 15 country based fleet managers in regional centers. I covered the area from Campbeltown, near Sydney, to the Victorian border [& beyond] & west as far as Young.
I had the coastal area from north of Wollongong, south to Batemans Bay & my fleet , at about 650 units, was 50% bigger than the next biggest group.

In all of that, there was no real economic justification for the use of LSD in Nissan Bluebirds. I tried to justify one on the grounds that i spent quite some time in the winter months in the snowfields using ice covered roads as an avenue for an excuse. They pointed out that i had spent the previous 5 years there without incident, so there was no DEMONSTRABLE need. Bummer.
They were right, we never had a demonstrable need in all the time that we had Datsuns starting with the 200B wagons in 1980 untill the last Bluebird went from my fleet in '91.

The Detroit locker that i placed in a Falcon Van was death on wheels & unless you have driven one of these things, while understanding how they work, you could never grasp how violently they can make a car change lanes in a turn just by depressing the clutch to change gear. They need a skilled driver to get the best from them & i wasn't prepared to risk it in the fleet.

Yes, I have a couple of H145 LSD units (3 in fact) but a guy here is keen on buying all my bits and pieces for one lump sum price which includes these units, if you want one be quick!

S110 silvias with Z20E's definately have H1665 differentials and LSD's were an option. In S12 they again were an option in poverty pack models. The big guns (FJ20T and CA18DET) all had independant rear ends with R200 LSD's.N/A FJ20's had R180's as an option.

Dodgeman, maybe southern NSW management was too tight to spend a dollar to save two dollars.

SEC (State Electricity Commissionin Vic) also used them as an alternative to 4WD vehicles in some applications. This info came from a friend who worked in Nissan fleet sales in durability testing.

As the former Telecom fleet manager for a chunk of south east NSW, i can assure you that no Nissan Bluebirds in the years 1981 to about 1985 ever came with LSD's in the NSW fleet. I tried to get one for my series 2 [which replaced my series 1] & i had input to the top of the management heap [we were apprentices together] but NO DEAL.

I got a Detroit Locker for my Falcon Panel van, but that was for a special development programme that i devised. Those things are pure evil on the street & it was NOT recomended.
