Ive already posted this to someone in Adelaide but forgot to post it here.
The easiest and cheapest and simplest.

The early ge PBR sigma calipers and brackets with 3 (or two think?) redrilled holes to allow the calipers to miss the tie rods by angling away from them works well (otherwise the bracket bolts straight on all the caliper bracket holes match up but tie rods get in the way if you get what I mean) and instead of using the early 120y 218mm or the 1200 212mm disks I used the same early sigma 228mm solid rotor (that sigma weighs about 1200kg so even though solid they handle 610kgs better:) with the inner circumference lathed by 2mm will slide onto 1200 coupe hubs which bolt up straight on.
No brackets to be made just change the master cylinder to the 120y or 1200 coupe one and presto. For power assistance you can try a Pbr off line booster from an early valiant but sorry guys cant remember the part no.
Stops on a dime and hopefully this make some people change their minds bout saving all drum braking original lightweight b10s ;)

Still love to see how to fit Stevos mazda brakes on mine.

I've had a look into disc brakes on a Datto 1000 although I'm not sure how usefull this will be to you guys down under as you may not have got these particular donor cars there.
Anyway, I found a Nissan Primera 1.6 vented front rotor slips over the stock B10 hub link it was made for it. The caliper is from an Austin Metro and is a lovely little AP four spot (as in AP racing!). As you can see in the pics it wouldn't be hard to make a bracket to mount this caliper. You'd probably have to fit slightly longer studs too. The whole assembly will fit inside a 13" wheel.

Sorry, but i have been seriously unwell, but reports of my necrosis are somewhat premature.

I believe that there is a feature of one mans disc brake setup for Datsun 1000's in the tech area of this website. He has apparently run this conversion with ventilated rotors for quite some years & it seems to work well.

I will be attempting to do a diferent conversion on a spare set of spindles in the near future.
The Datsun 1200 [non ventilated] rotors will fit the spindles straight on, as will the later 120Y types [Girlock] i believe. The 1200 calipers would be good, but they are sort of bulky & in my earliest attempts, i could not find a position to mount them without seriously compromising the turning circle.

The Girlock calipers from the late 120Y fit better, but use a smaller piston diameter that requires more line pressure, which the 120Y's original booster provides. It also requires a diferent size bore for the rear wheel cylinders, but this model of 120Y uses a Borg Warner rear axle assembly with Girlock brakes, so these cylinders will not fit our 1000 rear brake plates.

I have no plans to run a booster, so unless i can come up with a suitable caliper, i will have a problem.

When. and/or, if i come up with an alternate disc brake conversion that uses as many stock Datsun parts as possible, i will post it.

I had 4 wheel twin power assissted disk brakes on my 1000 coupe,but it was a rallycar now I did buy the car with this conversion so some of the details I am not totally sure of but here goes: 1200 hubs,bearings,and rotors then it had mitsubishi sigma front calipers and brackets,they were the early sigma which had a small and simple disk caliper.The sigma bracket needed 2 of the bolt holes oversized and it would bolt straight up to the 1000 stub axle,then the brake caliper bolts straight on.I think the disk rotor needed 1mm taken off it in a lathe aswell (get out the tape measure).
The rear disks were N12 pulsar rear disk calipers on R31 rotors and a hand made bracket.I recently made one of these brackets for my sunny disk rear,it looks like a pair of sunglasses and bolts up to the inside of the diff axle bearing flange.Then you simply cut all the drum brake assemble off leaving the 4 bolt holes which hold the axle and bearing in place and put it together.
Sounds like a lot of work but it stopped like a F1 datto,I have no idea what the boosters were just they were remote vacuum units.

Is it possible to put disc brakes on the front end of a Datsun 1000?? If so how hard is it?? Would I get them off a late 1200 or 120y or is there an easier way.
