hey ratdat_uk, are you sure the Bluebird 2000GTX had a longer wheelbase and bonnet?

It has been a long time since I've seen photos, so I could be wrong, but I thought they looked the same apart from some styling changes - mainlylights and grill.

I remember that they have the radiator mounted in front of the rad support panel, just behind the grill to allow for the inline 6. Not what you'd expect to see if they had lengthened the car to suit the 6cyl. You wouldn't happen to have any pics?

Sure Matt, I would like to meet other Datsun people. Let me know about that Mario's swap. I saw Demitri a few weeks ago and went to his place, nice cars he has, and lots of nice Datsun stuff, books, articles, collector items and more, a true Datsun guy.
Brad would probably want to show up, I told him my B210 wants to meet his 510,it is a Datsun challenge.
Lets make it happen, I'm in.

Jaime, we need to get together so I can see your car. How about the next Mario's swap? Maybe DGDatsport will go, and then we can all do lunch. Anybody else going to this event: hang on to your valuables is all I can say.

Hey dude, no need to get paranoid or anti 610(180B). Both are excelent. I have a B210, a 610 and a 1200 truck, all cool. Your dilema is not to change your 1200 for a 610, but to get the 610 without getting rid of your 1200. 610's are excelent, my hardtop 2 door is very fast,IRS suspension, torquey and looks excelent, factory L20B. The fact that it is rare makes it better, why drive a car everybody has, one more of the cattle? You will love that 610, believe me, find out for yourself, drive it, then, listen to anybody's opinions. You will love to drive both cars 1200 and 610 and know you have 2 of the best and exclusive Datsuns in the world.
My avatar has a 610 in it, and I also posted a picture of my 610(prior to lowering) in the photo section.
Good luck, I hope you buy it, as well as keep the 1200.Check this out:

The 610 sedan and SSS coupes were sold here and in continental Europe. All the coupes sold here were Japanese built with twin carb L18's and were known as "180B SSS coupes". All 610's apart from wagons had IRS. 610 sedans here came with a choice of L16 or L18 and were subsequently known as either 160B or 180B dependant on engine size.
Japanese models include the 2000GTX six cylinder versions in both sedan and coupe. These have the L20A with EFI.These are longer wheelbase and have a noticably longer bonnet than the four cylinder versions.
In the Japanese brochures I have both the four and six cylinder cars came badged as a Bluebird-U. I'm still not 100% clear what the U means.

As Mat pointed out US spec 710 coupes came with solid axles unlike our SSS versions which had IRS. Here all 710 sedans were solid axle and all coupes IRS. All the coupes sold here were SSS models with twin carb L16's, later ones having 5 speed gearboxes. In Japan the range was much more confusing. Both sedan and coupe could be had as SSS models with IRS, but both also came as lower spec cars with solid axles! The engine choice in production 710's is more limited though with all having L series, some with EFI.

All 810's sold here came with a choice or L16 and L18 again and all apart from the wagon had IRS. The coupe was a "180B SSS" again, like the 610.
The range of 810's worldwide is very confusing as they came with both IRS and solid axles as well as engines including L series, Z18's and L24E's. They also came in both long and short wheelbase but suprisingly the long wheelbase version could be had with a four cylinder engine. Odd.
The 200B is an australia only thing, although there is one here in the UK.

don't quote me.....
They have different front ends.
The ones with the solid axles have a piece of metal running up the middle. ie they have a split front grill.(like....a vertical metal section running up between the head lights)
Where as the ones with indepent rears, have grills similar to 1600, 180B.
The solids were made in Aust, the independent ones were made in JApan.
I don't reaallly pay much attn to 200b so i am a bit rusty on the differences in front end looks, so I may be incorrect about the front end differences.

The Datsun U is one of my all time favorite Dattos ...I thought they had the LZ20 fitted and were race only cars. I have a cover off an old Aussie Wheels magazine somewhere with a U in blue with bubble flares and Minilite style wide rims....it looks awesome.
