a friend of my uncles fitted a vn v6 3.8l efi commodore engine into a 1200 ute, with a 95' supra 5spd n/a model gearrbox, disc brakes custom tailshaft not sure on teh diff tho...
did most the conversion himself saving alot of money.
i intend on doing this very conversion myself as my dad and uncle restore old cars and are willing to help with it. but im suspicious of it being street legal tho a 3.8l from a 1.2 can that be legal? he says he got an engineer's cert for it...
i am willing to spend up to $20k over a period of time for this conversion.
anyone got any comments on a 3.8l into a 1200 ute?
my only major worry atm is wat diff to use?
any comments there?

Go the CA or SR!

You're not getting old [OK, not JUST old] you, like many of us, are just getting smart. It comes with maturity.

SR20VE, like the Honda S2000 engine are NA engines that have been worked to be as unsuitable to turbo as any NA engine can be.

If you want potential..start with a good turbo engine and you'll have enough potential. I know a lot of Datto owners who have stopped asking for more power..there is a point after which it just gets too scary, and too dangerous to drive in the wet.

if i was 2 built my ute up again i would of chosen a a SR20ve and spent alot on motor as they are 204 hp standard would be a legal install... and have plenty of pertentail..grr spelling...
and if that didnt go fast enough just force it..!
my 2 cents worth..
not saying the ca18det motors arent any good but everyone is going these conversions now.. something different is awlays fun..
ps stay with jap tech less weight and more power than most heavy old school motor's..lol sorry b120dat...
