Silicone works good to. You know when you put an A14/15 head on an A12 you have to drill a new oil callery for the rocker gear. Well I drilled at the wrong angle and just came through the side of the head. I filled it with silicone and its been fine for at least 2 years now. olboy

I laughed when I read that the wire bunches up in the mig. Brought back memories ages spent re feeding the wire through the mig on many occasions, wasting half a roll of wire, and in the end welds that look like bird poo and just as strong as it. Solder wont stick to Alluminium. We used to use Quick steel or Knead It to fix the corroded water pump housings on our old postie bikes. If you cant get some of that just use Ariledite. Clean and scratch up the surface good so that it sticks and then whack it all back together to continue on riding. Cheers Steve

Yeah I tried welding aluminium a few months ago (gearbox housing from my '69 corona was snapped in half) but the aluminium wire wasn't strong enough to feed through the MIG, it just bunched up in the feed mechanism...so the corona's on blocks until I come across a cheap bearbox.

Quote: just piss the #### part off and get a new 1 Get a new gearbox housing...sounds expensive, considering I paid $50 for the bike and its just gonna be something to thrash on the farm...I'll give the solder a go, and if that doesn't last then I'll look further

.......good work!
I got the cover off and found that the chain had at some stage slipped off the front sprocket and chewed a hole in the alluminium gearbox housing, its less that 5mm long and 2mm wide, but it lets all the oil out. Thinking of filling it with solder...any ideas?
errr u could fill it with solder but it wouldnt last long... solder is stronger when there is less of it.. in large amounts soldier is very week.. in small amonts soldier is strong.... if u cant get a bloke who knows how to weld aliminium ... get a new 1 ..... ive found with my moto that when something brakes dont rooot around for weeks trying to fix it.. just piss the #### part off and get a new 1..... dont solder.... it will come back to haunt u.... leave solder to the electricians woodydat

I got it out.
ended up drilling enough out of the head of the bolt that I could use a screwdriver and hammer a notch in the rim of the bolt, then it was just a matter of putting the screwdriver at the right angle, and hammering it around in a circle. It wasn't corroded, just in really tight.

I would try to drill the bolt with a small bit first then go larger and larger. The heat from the drill is sometimes enough to help get it out. Also some E-Z outs are better than others. Speaking of drills, left handed drill bits

many times when steel bolts get stuck into alloy form corrosion or what ever you end up pulling most of the thread out with it. which means tapping a slightly bigger thread

thats a good point about removing the cover to expose more of the bolt...if the punch doesn't work then thats what I'll try. Thanks

If you mean where the clutch cable goes into the bracket/lever ontop of the engine (right hand side when sitting on it)which I think you mean the answer is yes this cover is the clutch case and if you don't have all of the bolts in the sucker will leak I tried putting gasket goo on and nothing worked because the engine get's to hot .But another thought ......... If you can knock the top of the bolt off and take the cover off you should be able to get vice grips onto the part of the bolt that is sticking out and get the rest of it out that way .( if I'm picturing it properly in my head from memory it should work. Because I bet your problem is that the case only gives you a minimum amount of room around the bolt ??? I think. Wait till you see the bolts sitting above the oil filter on an old Suzuki ( that'll make you cry ). Tyrie wrote: thanks Autokat, thats just what I needed to know does the plate on the shifter side of the gearbox seal anything in, or is it just a cover...Im thinking i might just drill the head off the bolt and not replace it
