hey forget all this other stuff ive just done this up grade i have a 1970 datsun 1200 wagon so the same as yours you can get a 180B master cylinder the girlock one with out the booster it bolts to the fire wall you have to shorten the pin from the pedal you need to get a 3 way brass block and redirect the brake lines the pedal should pick up straight away and shouldnt go past half way any more questions? let me know

Abyss Thanks for the info. thats exactly what I needed to know. I'm not going to run a booster, I'll see what the pedal feels like first.

Jempson,

I have just done the stanza upgrade to my '84 1200 ute. I had a twin reservoir to start with but I went to a booster from a 120y.

The block on my firewall was different to yours, as mentioned earlier the rear line came straight from the back.

I was lucky that I could manipulate the rear line to reach the new master cylinder but I did have to get a new line for the front to go from the cylinder to the block on the firewall. I just went to a brake place with my old line, told them the lenght I wanted and they made one up with the right ends on it and I bent it up to suit where I wanted it to go.

If you do go for a booster, don't forget (like I did) to get the adaptor that goes into the inlet manifold to connect the vacuum hose from the booster. The strange thing is, the one from a 120y will not fit the 1200 inlet manifold (well it didn't on mine). I got one from a skyline, the stanza one will also fit but it has a few connections on it you will have to blank off, the skyline one doesn't.

If you are going for a booster, you will also have to make a bracket to mount it properly because there is a kink in the firewall that makes 2 of the mounting bolts too short!! You will also have to do some minor adjustments to the pushrod connector where it attaches to the pedal.

One other piece of advice, If you still have the standard 12" wheels, try to organise new wheels before the upgrade because the standard wheels will not turn with the Girlock brakes on the Stanza struts.

Sorry for a long post but I hope it helps.

If you bring me the ends I can make up the lines for you. I have a double flare kit, professional bending set and a lot of practise on my car. You'd have to come up to Castle Hill on a day when I'm working on my car. I have a length of brake tube from a VN commodore..if you dare

Getting a splitter is a good idea. I split the rear line down next the chassis rail.
See my setup at:

Photo of my brake lines

But most brake places will do it for cheap, but brake pipe is easily bent, and you can normally get the right lengths at the wreckers.

I used a 180b M/C with stanza/bluebird brakes and it worked sweet. you'll need the brass spliter as well.

Ade, Is it possible to make up new brake lines ? would it be possible to make an extension to the rear line to reach the new master cylinder?
James.

Running a booster also are we ?
If so get the booster and master off the same car and make them fit. 180B is a popular choice so is LA/LB Lancer.
If you just going to fit the master straight to the firewall I'd probably suggest the Sunny master cylinder.
Its 13/16" bore and should do the job nicely.
Only thing is that your cyl has a captive pushrod. ie. it is attached to the cylinder and held in place with a circlip and washer. The Sunny one isn't as its usually mounted to a booster.
So you will need to fabricate a new pushrod to go between pedal and master.
I do this for my 1000 conversions when I put disc brakes onto them.
There are pics. Ask dato1000ute as he took them when we did his car. It shows how it is all piped up too.

Cheers
Neil

I am also in the process of updating my single master cylinder to a twin set up.
A few things to remember, the brake block on the single cylinder enters from the underside,on the twin it enters from the side and the rear brake pipe comes directly from the cylinder so you will have to track down a new rear brake pipe and by the way I am still after one any help guys
Ade
