Without seeing the Gearbox mount, I suspect after the wipers failed, he was looking for other things to fail you. Man, the simple things can't be overlooked. If they are, then more complex things are probably also overlooked (From his perspective).

I had retractable seatbelts in my first CA1200, but after reading the NSW guidelines I only need lap/sash belts. But if I can get some good retractable one that fit properly in a 1200, I'll fit them instead. The passenger-side mirror is only needed if you have dark window tinting in the rear.

The Copper lines are a bad idea..as already discussed. Not to mention possible galvanic corrosion.

It's not much effort, to have the piece of mind, knowing even a picky inspector is satisfied.

dodgeman, my wipers worked perfectly about a week ago when I needed them (we don't get much rain here) it was because of them using it on a dry windscreen put alot of stress on them and they undid themselves slightly.
As for the gearbox mount, I thought what I did was sufficient as I have it bolted to the original holes and I just put ones through the floor for a secondary bracing.
My fixed length seatbelts are i excellent shape, which is why I'd trust them.

But alas I'm just a pawn in this automotive game, so I'm just giving into "The Man" and fixing up everything

I know what you going through mate I brought my gearbox mount from maddat and my engineer knocked it back because it dosent bolt to the chassis rails.So I either have to modify that one or make up a new mount headaces I dont need

I would think that a small and professional looking u-shaped rear crossmember -- that bolts only to the original mounting holes -- would pass. That what I've used (but mine was crudely cut with the fire-cutter). Bolting to the the floor seems unnecessary.

Sounds like you may not have done enough homework before fronting up for inspection.

Copper has been a NO-NO for decades & bolting through body sheet metal without suitable reinforcing is not really a good idea.

Seat belts. These things must be thirty years old by now. It's likely that they wouldnt pass the original compliance test now anyway.

You must have known about the wipers for a while, so that it is really just poor housekeeping.
It would seem that your "mod plater" is just doing what he is paid to do, covering his arse.

Never mind, these are all just relatively minor things, & he hasn't picked up on anything serious, so congratulations, you will soon be back in action.

whether or not you get approved for the copper fuel lines, I've always heard that it's a no no. Copper work hardens and can crack under all the vibration in a car.

Hey everyone,
I finally got my ass into gear and went to get my CA conversion mod plated, but I was knocked back for a few things (that I didn't know had to be done)
-Copper fuel lines I can't have (must be metal, WTF I know 2 guys who got their conversions approved with mod plating)
- Gearbox mount, I have a piece of angle steel about 10cm away from each chassis rail and I've welded on pieces to meet up with the original mount points as well as 2 bolts through the floor. I can't have that as it must be bolted to the chassis rails??? Also the bolts through the floow needs to have a 50x110 plates welded to the floor and get the bolts to go through that.

- Retractable seatbelts, I still have the standard fixed length ones

He also hit me up for a few other roadworthy things like side veiw mirrors and my wipers came loose so when you turned them on they would move a bit then get stick and the rod would move in the wiper arm.



Has anyone else had any similar probs with getting complienced or do I just have a prick of a mod plater?!?!?!
