hey 731200 these are all good tips, my girlfriend has to run a gallant booster and mc in her escy coz shes running a cozy 2ltr. I pulled the motor and all the wiring out of the car last weekend and its now sitting on the garage floor. I also picked up a ute diff to handle the power. It is defiantly a bigger motor ( about 65mm taller and a lot wider) but because it NA i dont have to worry about lots of piping. I am dead keen to do this swap without choping ANYTHING. I think it can be done if I put abit of thought and money into it, for example the ford box saves the tunnel but will cost to build the bellhousing and get a clutch and flywheel and the rest. But its worth not choping the 2door. I cant do anything on it for the next week but after that Ill get stuck in, cant realy do much though because painters and engineer shops wont want to hear from me till after xmas.

Try and source a gallant GA or GB booster or a lancer LA or LB brake booster (Same car different maker) I can get a photo if ya want.

Get the S13 plenum to make things fit easier maybe even a Gready style would be easier ie. more room.
Beware the side of the SR20 heads vary, on my S13 SR20 where the plenum bolts to the head it is at an angle (ie. not 90 degrees from the block more like 45 degrees) other SR20's have no angle, they are at 90 degrees to the block.
So if you try to put say my plenum on a non angle head it wouldnt fit.

While you have the engine where you want it now is proably a good time to tell you about the cross rod for the steering.
When you turn the steering wheel left or maybe right the cross rod moves up and hits on the engine causing problems when trying to go round sharp left hand coners.

hope this helps

how are you going in relation to room in the engine bay and trans tunnel?

im having troubles right now cause i dont want to have to get remote boosters! s13 sr is a tight squeese cause the inlet manifold hits up against the master cylnder when engine is centred!! maybe s14/s15 inlets will fit as they are a high mount and a bit shorter.

You should be fine to run the S14 SR20DE with the VVT, there isn't anything really different or special with the computer side of things. If you ever compare a VVT engine and a standard redtop, you'll notice a large hump in the valve cover on the VVT. From what I've heard, it's nothing but a large piece of rubber mounted to the end of the camshaft and it's filled with a fluid that somehow controls the VVT. Doesn't seem like rocket science to me. The VVT SR is supposed to put out 165 horsepower and 19.6kg-m of torque.

I think about it like this...a Nissan Sentra SE-R with SR20DE (non VVT) does the quarter mile in high 15's. In a 1200 that weighs nearly 1000 lbs less, and with a more powerful VVT engine, it should scoot pretty good!

PS - The S14/S15 SR20DET is also VVT

The vvti SR is super!
The pulsar model puts out 140kw (i read somewhere on the net so dunno how true it is).
I dont think they put out a turbo model.

had a look at the s14 today. not to bad. Hurd the motor run, all sounds good, its only done 130,000km so it should still be good and strong. Its actually the vvt(?) motor (vtec) so it will be more powerful that just a standard sr. Any one know how much? Im a bit worried that it might need a special computer because of the vvt but its all there and im going to keep it standars except for the exhorst. The gearbox affect the computer? changing the box wont mess with any of the electrics will it? Defiantly decided to use the ford type 9 box. Im borrowing one this week to see how it fits in the datto tunnel, so fingers crossed.
Quinn.

I think he mean to say it would be impossible without cutting the body ... DATGRL, you cut a "good 5 inches into the firewall and sides of the trans tunnel".

But I've heard from others it can be done without cutting, maybe they were using an automatic-equipped 1200 body?

There is no way you can fit an sr20 in ya datto with out major mods if ya can your a legend.

The manual box in my car (S13 180sx box) has lasted 2 engines 2.5 years and 1.5 diffs of abuse (alot! I drive it every day) its pretty strong.
Engine is stock (s13 180sx sr20de) goes hard and is a good conversion.
There is so many mods to make it practical though so if ya guna do it do it properly in something you can chop up and re fabricate to make it practical.
But if ya do put it in the 2door the amount of work to change it back would be nearly impossible.

PS. I recon the auto sr20 in a datto would go sick (good) and would be one less hole you have to cut. and the auto 1200 tunnels are bigger cause i got one.

Drive safely!
