The only way we can get stage access is to run "competition" vehicles.
So basically I load up a racecar with my gear and "navigate" the course.
I usually know which stages i'm going to stop on the day before but where I stop is decided once i'm in the stage..
Our station is the only that has the OK to do this because we make the Doco that is released on DVD..

So if you happen to see a car come to a screeching halt and the marshmallow man jumps out of the passenger seat with his intercom still plugged in looking tired and in need of a beer say hello.!!

Yeah good wreaker yards for old Jap import/factory cars are hard to find around tassie..

The ones that Ive been to that supply stuff are: Jap imports or Parts world out at Churchill park drive, foster street (murphy st) normally have some pre 1980 datsun stuff and one down south the bridge north wrecker (i havent been here but good stories.....)

Most of the yards cater for old escorts, cortinas, gemi's etc. the usual!

I am hoping to make it to the longford stage this and the silverdome exhibtion as school has taken priority the last few years.... sob

Dat16, are you racing or filming or a bit of both worlds? Where can we look out for you pointing your overly large camera ??

Dave

hi wombat racing
About the wrecking yard on the way to Georgetown. It has closed down as I have been down there not very long ago and the paddock is bare. This wreckers was in Mt Direction, if it is the same one that you are reffering to.
As I was going to call in there myself as I used to see quite a lot of older cars in there on the way past. But the next time I went down that way, the yard was empty.
The one at Deloraine is still there as far as I know.
I would love to know a bit about your RARE datsun cherry, as in condition etc. Are you in a club with it? I would love to see a pic of it on this site if possible
Anyway great to talk to you.
Bye for now.

what about in the open section ?

Even at 2500 I'd still say not many datsun guys can afford that.

Where do people get these insane prices from???
Killer1200, its more like $2500. depending what section you run, Historic, Classic or Modern...Classic makes up the majority of the field..

Hey wombat_racing, keep an eye out for the Southern Cross camera cars (if we run two this year) as I will be in one of them..

Oh by the way I could probly dig up last years road books if anyone is interested. evilsim, these books are the ones competitors use to navigate around the state and have all the transport and stage info..

theres a wreckers on they way to Georgetown on the right hand side of the highway (nismo do you know were I mean?) that used to have a lot of older cars in there. also Deloraine wreckers on the way down to devonport would maybe be a good spot also to have a look.

I will be the Stage Safety Officer for the Rosebery to Melba Flats again this year(get to see all the cars).

ooh are there any wreckers around down there in TAS, perhaps i could do some scavenging in between stages (when im not out trying to catch a tasmanian tiger with the big reward on its stil- breathing head)

last year i got the job of washing the cars every night before they went into the silverdome, most pleasureable carwashing experience i've ever had, but some of the big names washed their cars themselves, arseholes. but i got to meet alot of the competitors, some people just sat in their cars but others got off their "i have alot of money" arse and helped, very good experience.
