i got a quote from the guy that welds all my intake manifolds, as this is what he does for a living, and also roll cages, rear clips, tubs, coilovers etc, $1200 installed for a hilux diff cut down with custom axles.

that $3,000 sounds a bit pricey to say the least. maybe with billet axles and ratios $2,000 installed.

$75 per side. and that ratio will not be fun to drive at speed with. i have a 4.11 hilux LSD in mine and she sings fairly high on the freeway at 100. i haven't got a tacho on her atm but i reckon i'm revin at about 3200 in fifth at 100kmph.

as for the mini spool, they are a cool thing to have but when it rains and the CA just decides to boost, goodbye traction and forward driving. it'll fishtail like there's no tommorow. also takes a lot out of your turning circle (unless you arc up the tyres ).

unless you get it at a real good price, i'd leave it alone (sounds like its worth a heap). but i guess you can always get a different centre... how much, ballpark figure, are you lookin at?

thanks guys the only other bad thing with this diff is that i believe it has very high ratios as it was in a 1200 set up for drag racing.
If i was to find a center with better ratios would i need a new spool or can i use the same 1.
I pretty sure the ratio at the moment is 5:3.
Cheers luke

$75 a side should do it. Spool and locker both do the same think; lock the axles together.
