there was a mk 1 escort with the cosworth awd running gear and motor stuffed into it in england quite a few years back. one of the problem's they had was the width of the track, ended up with huge flared guards. looked good though.

Still reckon that the evo drive line would be the best way to go, they have tricky differentials and computer torque split to each wheel. It is a true drivers AWD drivers car

The early model suzuki's (e.g. LJ50 and LJ80) had a third drive shaft between the gearbox and transfer case. They are a lot narrower than a 1200 though. If you going for a 4x4 (offroad) version, have a look around at some of the overlanders that are around. (typically a holden hz/hj series dumped on a hilux or landcruiser chassis) and do something like that.

I'd say the best thing to would be find a small 4x4 that has a chassis (one that unbolts from the body) take the body off, strip your 1200 down to a shell, and put that on top. You'll probably have to put a complete new floor in it, but that way, you have all your suspension and all mechanicals there before you start. You also don't need to worry about strengthening the datto chassis, although you may need to lengthen or shorten its new chassis.

I've thought about doing it before. The main pitfall once the project is complete, is that is more than likely going to have a higher centre of mass than the 4x4 you started with, and hence they tend to roll a lot easier than most 4x4's.

If your serious about this have a good hard look at some pics of a 720 ute setup

this would be a small nissan based system that could be applied

the physical size of the frount diff combo will be the strugell

the frount end of a A series powered pulsar might suplly some struts and drive shafts

how to get the transfer case in a 1200 tunnel would be a amazing design process

I have seenthe 2 engine thing used in a honda civic at royal melbourne show. It was 2 fronts joind at the middle. 2 clownes where driving it & they could break it i half & drive it & drive it away from each other & they did grouse dounuts it was cool

yeah but if u was smart u would know that would never work. because neither engine would ever run at the same RPM. which would cause a pull/push a effect. and actually slow the car down.

Na just get two E10 Cherry engines and gboxs and bolt one in each end. You will have AWD and almost 2litres of engines.

If you was realy cleaver you could even have all wheel steering.

If you want to stick with North South you'd need to use the GTR box

I have done alittle research on this for my 1000 coupe
