I like the idea of using stanza brakes but am worried about the cost & guard clearance. The front tyres touch coming over a bump on lock now. Is there anyway u can keep the original offset? As for the british S.U's, if my memory serves me right a mate of mine had a datsun 1600 with an L20 running a 180B SSS manifold & he replaced the jap copies with 1.75" brit S.U's. It was quick for it's day (20 years ago) but a bit agricultural. He fitted a 240Z 5 speed but as they have a yolk in the tailshaft he just bolted it without one. Boy did it go through uni's.

i'd say leave in the racing seats put on a 32/36 weber and manual gearbox that should get her going.

I have that setup and some other bits and it really goes!

Seriously go for the stanza brakes, make sure they are girlock calipers, (same as some commo rears) and grab strut, steering arm, lower control arm, ball joints and you will need sunny radius rods. (or you can use stanza ones but these are a bit thicker so will have to make hole larger) These will fit under her 14in. hotwires. and are a lot better than the dodgey stuff that comes on the 120y's and 1200 coupes. With this setup you can use the 120y sway bar which is 2mm thicker than the stock one, grab the stanza sway bar link as well.

1200Rallycar my stanza had round headlights and came with the girlocks.

Also grab the rear drums off the stanza as these are a peice of piss to fit and will even braking bias out also grab the proportioning valve.

As for the SU's you would of had the original British Su's on you EH, they are far better than the hitatchi knockoff's that came on the SSS model datsun's. But im pretty sure they bolt up to the same manifolds. There are some on ebay at the moment. But i would go for a little 32/36 weber jetted to suit a 1200, redline make crappy adapters but just make your own because they need a bit of filing here and there and are a pain in the arse.
Anyone here will be happy to help you and also use the search bar as that is another whole world of information.

Cheers Sean

It's a bit weird, it has drums all round but a new twin reservoir master cylinder. I didn't ask Mike if he fitted it. "Cole" is my daughter and she is enquiring about cheaper of the two coupes for sale. If it works out, she can take what she needs & I would rebuild the coupe for me. It takes me back to my youth. I had an EH premier sedan with a worked six with triple su's off a jag. We also fitted a four speed & disc brake front end. I have a new Honda Accord Euro which is a great car, but I love the way you can chuck the 1200 into a corner & feel what it is doing. The Honda is a bit too easy to drive fast.

so..... it has the drums on the front???

you could chuck the coupe struts in for disc brakes, you also need the coupe master cylinder, shouldnt need a booster for this setup

also 120y struts will give a similar upgrade

or if getting fancy you can go for the square headlight stanza strut, still a pretty straight forward swap..... and still could do without having to install a booster

Before we worry about horsepower, I want to get the brakes sorted. I thought about picking up a rusty 120y for the disc brakes, sway bar & power booster. I saw a couple of cheap ones in the trading post. I really wanted to buy a EXA but now we have the Datto, I love it too. I might get a 240Z & we can go on club runs.

id say pick up an a14 or a15, would be the simpelest way to get it moving for sure, the auto box will still bolt up to these motors

there is some slight mounting issues, but they are easily overcome, and there maybe issues with rego and insurance if these are a concern

su's is a good conversion especially with a a12gx head, or a14/15 head adapted to the a12, though the toughest part to get will probably be the intake manifold

then other tricks like extractors, thermo fan, and the usuals

turbo doesnt hurt either

Hey vex66 - I'd just like to say 'Nice Work' on getting your daughter a real car for her first. I see too many teenagers driving around in these plastic fantastic's. It's nice to see that someone can appreciate a classic.

I would say pull out the A12 and swap it for an A15 from an importer.

That will give it a bit more go and is pretty simple to do.
